Situated in the historic village of Aylesford, The Hengist is a modern restaurant and bar, a short walk from the river's edge.

The 16th Century building stands with original features, offering a perfect balance of elegance, heritage and modernity all surrounded by manicured gardens.

The Hengist offers a range of dining options including a casual dining option on the ground floor and two more formal dining rooms upstairs along with outside terrace dining in our gardens.

We offer seasonal 'a la carte and 'set' menus along with a 'Sunday lunch' menu. All of our dishes are freshly made to order with locally sourced ingredients.

We arrived at the restaurant at 7:30 and didn’t receive our main meal until 10:15. Our friends ordered the sharing steak and it was awful all bone and very very under cooked. Ever table in the restaurant was complaining and they had to take money off everyone’s bill. The cocktails were the best part of this meal.

We went for Sunday lunch and had a lovely time. Cocktails are amazing, food was delicious, decor was great. The only downside was that the service was very slow and waiting staff not very attentive as in we sat with empty glasses for a long time and no-one came over to the table really except to take our order or serve the food. Also not enough gravy on the roast but that is a personal preference. Overall though loved The Hengist and would definitely go back!

Not good value for money. I don’t mind paying good money for a night out, but I feel this was very overpriced. We were sat upstairs, the lighting is not very nice. I had to keep trying to get someone’s attention for a drink. The food was good however, no complaints there.

I’m still dreaming about my meal at the Hengist! Each bite was a delight, and the presentation just blew us away. Don’t miss out on trying their steaks! If you’re a foodie like me, you’ll love this place! The menu has a fantastic selection of dishes, and we loved everything we tried. We only had good comments about the food. I can’t wait to come back again! The menu offers a wide variety of options, and everything we tried was delicious. I especially loved the creative twists on classic dishes.

I had a wonderful experience earlier today at the hengist. My husband and I saw the new Sunday lunch menu on Facebook and just had to book!!! Despite reading some of the previous reviews regarding the food, we decided to give it a try for ourselves and IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!! Immediately when we walked in we were hit with this bubbly, warming atmosphere. A lovely lady named Julia greeted us at the door with a welcoming smile, she offered to take our jackets and took us to a beautiful table by the fireplace . My husband had the scallops and the pork, whilst I had the delica pumpkin and hispi cabbage. The portion sizes were perfect for us, and the food was delivered to us so quickly! Julia, Ollie and Leah delivered such an amazing service, being extremely attentive but also giving us the much needed time to ourselves. Leah was exceptionally polite and made us feel like royalty! After our delicious meal (too stuffed for pudding unfortunately but the table next to us had sticky toffee pudding that looked divine) we were asked if we wanted a hot drink, which was lovely to hear as not many places offer them anymore. On our departure, we were handed our jackets by the owner (Kieron) who asked us how our experience was (amazing!) and we got to chatting about the new chefs and the cocktails. Its clear to see just how much thought and passion is put into this beautiful restaurant and how hard the staff work to deliver a one of a kind service and experience. I would definitely recommend the Hengist to anyone, such a hidden gem with excellent staff and glorious food! We will definitely be coming back to try the grill night.

Lovely venue Menu was not as advertised on website, they said new chef changed menu that morning? Poor customer service and attention to detail, no condiments offered or checking that things were satisfactory. Small tables were not cleared from glasses etc had to move to table next to us. Tables we’re very close together, so others could hear conversations Felt like we were an inconvenience. However the steak we ordered was cooked to perfection. Would we visit again I don’t think so, Is it over priced for the quality, choice on menu, and service definitely not.

Second choice starter no Scollops , prawn cocktail was the poorest I’ve ever experienced served with white bread no lemon etc My partner had the Fish Pie It was a pie of potato minus any fish The whole experience was incredibly disappointing

First time visiting the Hengist under new management. Booked a Sunday birthday evening meal just before Christmas thinking there would be a festive ambiance and atmosphere but no festive decorations at all the side of the restaurant we were put. Only menu offered was the Sunday lunch menu which if known at time of booking we wouldn’t have booked as took two older children who don’t like roasts but no other options available when asked. Only 4 starters on offer, not much choice. When ordering beef roasts we weren’t asked how we wanted it cooked so assumed it would be thin slices of cooked beef, but it came out rare for everyone that ordered it, just one very thick cut of beef. When asking the server to have it cooked more for one person we were told they’d have to check if the chef would even do that, server came back and chef had agreed. Another person wanted it cooked more but doesn’t like confrontation so ended up not eating it. Small amount of gravy meant quite a dry meal. Asked for the desert menu but told there wasn’t much left, no desert menu even offered, told only two options and by the way it was said by the server not to bother so felt no choice but to ask for the bill. So walked out having spent £160 on a basically a poor carvery, no alcohol and 1 drink each in the minimal time we were there. Don’t bother
