The Ivy restaurant has been a firm fixture on London’s dining and social scene since 1917. The restaurant and private room upstairs are the epitome of real glamour. A shimmering central dining bar in the restaurant draws admiring attention, and the signature harlequin stained-glass windows, oak panelling and striking contemporary art collection ensure the longevity of this very British of dining institutions. Executive Chef Gary Lee creates balanced seasonal menus, featuring Ivy classics, but accounting for today’s tastes, incorporating more Asian dishes, salads and vegetables, and the advent of a “sea and shells” section. Director Fernando Peire leads a strong and experienced team to deliver the unfaltering service for which The Ivy has become well known over the years. The Ivy welcomes customers without reservations at the central dining bar, where the A La Carte and Set menus are both served.

    The food was excellent and the waiter was really good BUT (i) we had booked for 6.30 and our table was not ready at that time and we had to wait a good 20 minutes before being seated, (ii) the restaurant was busy and it took a long time for the food to arrive, and then (iii) a manager came and told us that we would not have time for coffee after our desert because we "would not have time". We felt we were being hustled out of the restaurant, even though any time shortage relating to the booking was entirely the restaurant's fault. We will go again to this restaurant, but their behaviour rather spoiled the end part of what was actually a very good meal.

    The receptionist (who looked like the head because was telling the others what to do) was not very pleasant. For a place where you spend an average of £300 for a dinner, I would expect to at least have a welcoming experience. The starters took 40min to arrive but I was not even bothered because the waiter was amazing but we were genuinely surprised that the first thing that you experience is someone looking at you in a bad way and talking to you like she doing you a favour. It would be fantastic if someone could have a conversation with her and explain that customers go there to spend money and that she’s supposed to provide the service customers expect her to provide

    Good vibe Not much noise Kind but sometimes distracted by other customers during busy time I wish I had the gravy for shepers pie separately but had no choice because a staff already poured without asking me. I could not finish because it was too salty for me. Other than that, I recommend this place !

    On arrival we were told we didn’t have a booking. When it was established we had and they had made a mistake, we were told to go to the bar. No other words and everyone was surprised at how dismissive and curt the lady on the desk was and made the whole party feel like an inconvenience. It doesn’t matter about the rest of the visit because all our guests spoke about was the reception they received.

    Food was excellent, service was pretty terrible. Since we’re not from the UK, we wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt on service issues. However, no matter what country it’s odd to be left sitting there ignored for 30 minutes without any offer of refresh of drinks or water. They seemed to be happy to spend time on tables near us who just arrived and ignored us. Enjoyed the cheese soufflé, steak, mushroom risotto, and desserts were also good. Our server was just not attentive.
