Nice pub serving decent food. Dog friendly. We booked for 3, I rang the day before to add another 2 people but were told this wasn’t possible as they were full. When we arrived our allotted table was set for 4 and was easily big enough to sit another person. In this current climate I’m surprised they can turn business away.

We were disappointed that the joiners arms lacked a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Staff though very efficient, appeared sullen and brusque. The food received mixed reviews from our group- pasta was delightful but the beef, though tasty was small in portion and needed some vegetable accompaniment (this could have been advised when we’d ordered). Overall we felt expensive compared to other establishments that we had been to in the area.

I have visited the Joiners Arms and few time now and the latest experience was disappointing. The positives: the setting is great and very welcoming. There is a nice vibe and it’s an enjoyable place to eat. The negatives: the price of the food and drink does not meet the standard of service. I am more than happy to pay good money for a meal and drinks but I expect the service to be top notch and sadly it was lacking. The small attention to details were missing. We ordered a bottle of wine and it was dunked down on the table with a, ‘do you want me to open it?’ In an after-thought tone. Given the calamity, I refused and just wrestled with it and poured it for the two of us. We ordered a starter which came quite quickly but before we really had finished, the main was then brought out to us. Both the steak and steak frites were quite fatty and not sure if they had really rested properly. For the price (£34) I would have expected a better cut. Maybe this is the reality nowadays. However, the sauce and chips were really tasty. To sum things up, there are things that are great but I think the cost should translate to better attention to detail and care of service. This was Valentine’s weekend and I marked ‘date’ on the app, but no one thought to mention it, maybe give a small compliment gesture or acknowledge the event. It was just very transactional. Which is a real shame given the distance required to travel to this venue. It will make me think twice next time, which is a real shame.

Overall brilliant experience, food , service, staff all excellent, let down by the front door being constantly left open to allow a bitter freezing cold wind into the room , no one wants to sit in a bar paying almost £20 for 2 drinks freezing cold , suggested putting a self closing arm on the door , the lady took this onboard, and said she would pass on our suggestion, room was also very cold , you should not be paying £220 for a room to have to put a dressing gown and have to get into bed .

Lovely Sunday lunch, meat was delicious although the side veg was a bit bland and small portion. Drinks are expensive; £12 for a glass of Shiraz is excessive (nothing special).
