The Lexington is more than a restaurant, it’s an institution. Located on the corner of Lexington Parkway and Grand Avenue, this St. Paul community was the most fashionable at the turn of the 19th century. The St. Paul elite lived just blocks away and the first electric trolley brought visitors up and down Grand Avenue. The Lexington opened in 1935, after the end of prohibition, and was a popular neighborhood bar to gather and socialize. Previously operating as a speakeasy, the expansive wood panels were perfect for hiding a little booze and one can only imagine the shenanigans going on beyond the hidden staircase behind the coat check. For decades following, The Lex, as it’s called by locals and enthusiasts alike, was the place to be seen; business dealings, cocktail hours, and milestone celebrations were a regular occurrence for St. Paul socialites.

Very nice ambience, excellent waitress. Started with shrimp cocktail which was disappointing. All dinner meals were very good. Nice, special occasion restaurant because it can be pricey.

We attended a special program on St. Paul gangsters. This was a prepaid event that included appetizers and one cocktail. The program was mediocre, the room was over crowded, the noise from the restaurant very loud, and the appetizers were awful. This was not at all like the Lexington restaurant we have known and loved for years.

We had a wonderful time last night at the Irish program! Very fun night and the food was fine. It was a little crowded but I realize you had to do that to get everyone seated. You also might try a program with Celeste Tours. Sister Celeste is a hoot! Thanks for trying something NEW! We love, love the Lexington......

Great restaurant--very expensive! This is a classic elegant steak and seafood gem-75 years old but updated nicely. Steakhouse and cocktail vibe. We had great steaks and very nice cocktails. The chocolate is delicious and HUGE!! Wish it were less expensive.

This was our first time visiting The Lexington and it will definitely not be our last. From the point we arrived with the valet and the friendly service, we felt like we were VIP! The waiter did amazing with telling us about the menu and making recommendations. We got our picture taken and had ice cream for our anniversary. It was a great experience and we will definitely be back! Thank you!
