Really nice atmosphere and very good food. Waiter was a little odd, gave too many personal thoughts and just seemed a bit over the top at times

OK, please understand I am new to the area—an area that seems binary: aging retirees or vast numbers of beachgoers in season. This place has been around a long time and seems like a great place in its day—1985. Its clever theme has not aged well, nor do the owners seem to care. Hey, if it’s still got cash flow, who cares? Cute 30 years ago, it has books as part of the decor. Get it? Library. One big vacant dining room with a book theme. No privacy, no subtlety—just a Southwest Cafeteria with books. It also seems to own the crazy loud joint adjacent—a piano-LOUD bar shaking the wall to my right during the whole “Valentine’s” dinner. The staff? Oblivious after decades of this unacceptable din. OK, I get it. The restaurant still has a following that’s enough to at least pretend. The wine list is set up for the rich locals, not discerning, and visitors who don’t mind spending a hundred dollars on a bottle of so-so non-local wine—or on a bottle for people who want to show off to their friends. As an event for a destination restaurant (of which it should be neither), I suppose this gimmick works. Gotta be a great way to bring in income during the slow off-season. Nothing for any regulars who want a decent drinker who come often—of whom we will never be. The greeter or hostess was delightful. The waitstaff was upscale, although a little bored and using clichéd language for newbies. The she-crab soup and presentation were great, which was unfortunate, because the rest was a misery. The filet was ordered medium and served raw with a spoonful of dark, flavorless gravy, which, I guess, Valentine’s couples can endure. My date had one bite only, which went unremarked by our seasoned, bored waiter… The halibut, which I traditionally love and have had after being pulled from the Kenai and also everywhere else, had a lovely light sauce over a chewy, old, overcooked, sad piece of fish I could not begin to finish. This is a restaurant circling the drain, unapologetically...

First time diners—4 of us. Promptly seated upon arrival. Service was friendly and professional. She crab starter was superb. Entrees enjoyed by all. Had the salmon off the regular menu which was a generous sized serving but fairly dry. Haddock and steak specials were enjoyed but thought the steak overpriced. Desserts were tasty.

Service was great. One of the best Old Fashions I have ever had in Myrtle Beach. Food was delicious and served at a great temperature. Plan to go back soon.

We highly recommend The Library!! We started with the baked feta appetizer, which was delicious. For our main courses, we had the halibut with lump crab and a perfectly cooked filet, along with a lobster tail to share. The filet melted in your mouth and could be cut with a table knife it was so tender! To finish off the meal, we indulged in a rich peanut butter cheesecake for dessert. Our waiter was outstanding—attentive and knowledgeable, answering all of our questions with ease. The intimate, cozy atmosphere of the restaurant enhanced the overall experience. Just be prepared to spend a little extra, but it’s definitely worth it!

This restaurant is beyond outstanding. It's small and very sedate. It's not cheap. But the food - some dishes are prepared at your table - is amazing. The service was incredibly attentive as well; the waiters double as chefs at your table. Eating here is a memorable experience. It's probably most appropriate as a "special occasion" dinner. Make sure there's enough of a balance on your credit card!
