Classic Irish cuisine from chef Sean Smith in the Kildare countryside.

Sean’s mouth-watering new menu is as always sourced locally with some ingredients even grown on the very grounds of the Cliff at Lyons Estate. Food lovers will enjoy classics such as Roast Rib of Beef, Cherry Valley Duck Breast and Oven Baked Baby Turbot with sides of seasonal vegetables, mini Seafood platters and of course for something a bit sweet, Whiskey & Orange Ice Cream or Chocolate Fondant with Salted Caramel Ice Cream.

The Mill restaurant is the heart of Cliff at Lyons, with huge double-height ceilings, warm open fire and windows that open up to a terrace beside the mill race and waterfall. Here, you will find a relaxed style of dining where it is easy to enjoy a lunch or dinner with friends or family. The illuminated waterfall provides a unique back drop to this airy and spacious room.

We enjoyed a lovely evening with friends, celebrating our first wedding anniversary. The service was friendly and attentive. We enjoyed the banter with the restaurant team. The food was superb, a real treat and a bonus to say hi to the Chef as he moved between the tables to meet the diners. We certainly didn't need the salt or pepper we'd requested during the first course. We plan to do it all again next year. Thank you!!

Food was great, stunning setting, but I can’t help but feel it felt like it was each staff members first day. Forgot to ask if we would like to order tea (at afternoon tea!!). When we did order tea eventually it then took about 15 minutes to arrive. Polite staff but just no idea what they are meant to be doing.

We had a special anniversary dinner here last night. Cockail (Mojito was nice) Wine Rioja (very nice) Main course - fillet of beef was amazing - couldn’t fault it but definitely order sides.. My main criticism was or the starters and deserts. Started was a sharing filo prawn 19 euro (what a joke!!! Three tiny filo prawns and I mean minute (more like super small shrimps wrapped in a. Cigarette style filo pastry) three of them for 19 euro which means to share you get 1 and a half each) I was disgusted , didn’t even wow with the flavour - if I bought them in Lidl I would pay 3 euro at most) Deserts were 14 euro each - a chocolate desert and an apple desert. Nothing to write home about. 1 bottle of water and left having spent 260 euro for a lovely fillet of beef and the rest disappointing. Ambiance is nice and the room is lovely but 100% would not return as a result of everything bar the beef. Plus taxis ended up being a very underwhelming night for such a special event. I have had overall meals at half of the price that were better (bar the beef). Sorry to write the poor review because I love the location and the historic nature of the building but the food doesn’t match.

The Mill was our best dining experience after travelling through all of Ireland for nearly 3 weeks. The food was amazing and service impeccable. Thank you the Executive Chef Sean Smith for taking the time to guide us through the cheese trolley and have a lovely chat. It’s the personal touches like that which make a dining experience memorable.

We had both had starters and a main, my wife had a poached egg which was translucent I’d cook it better at home. I had the the oysters for a starter which are over priced.
