   Sat next to a roaring fire on a cold day, why would you pay the same price to eat a burger outside. Portions are enormous and tasty. Arrived early for reservation quite happy to sit in the bar but was seated straight away. We ate earlier today and all round it was a much better experience from our previous visit that was shortly before closing. Would have given it full marks apart from the variation of food temp on same plate, from almost cold to very hot.

   Delicious food, good variety of choices, beautiful building! Slightly more expensive but you get what you pay for. Service was good, maybe a little slow to bring the dessert menu as I had to chase it but it was busy. Definitely need to book!

   Menu was well explained when we sat down with regards to specials available, however, we came to order a standard item off the menu which was fine to start with, then came back 5 mins later to say one of the choices no longer available with no explanation. This item was not mentioned as been unavailable to other customers that sat sown after us, which was very poor service. We changed our order, then order arrived and one item missing off order. Had to wait another few minutes for missing item to arrive with no apology for missing item once missing item was received. Other tables around us were waiting nearly 50 mins from point of their order and then they also received wrong items. Once we had eaten, we were kept waiting for nearly 20 mins and no one came to check of everything was ok and no offer of puddings etc. had to go to the bar to request the bill, we were then given bill and handed card machine straight away to pay and not given time to check the bill, the bill was then completely wrong and had to be given refund for wrong bill and again no apology given. Really poor poor service for such a lovely setting of the restaurant. No communication between staff was apparent

   My steak and ale pie was excellent. Good to see no use of flaky pastry! Brownie for dessert was plentiful even if someone's hand slipped adding the alcohol. What was disappointing was the (still, a day later) failure to update the menus on the website. This meant my partner was unable to have the halibut on the - now unavailable - "something different" menu. There was nothing different!! And why can't fish come without all that batter? Service was very friendly

   Staff was nice. Service was slow. 3 sitting at a table for 10 wasn't cosy at all. Steak burger was very average. Steak pie was nice. Meals were not worth the price. We would return for a light bite or a drink whilst at the zoo but probably wouldn't eat a main meal again.

   The food on this occasion was delicious and the service from Ollie the waiter was very good. A pleasant efficient person with an excellent demeanour.

    The food was exceptional as was the value as there was a 2 for 1 menu which we did not anticipate. I booked for my daughter's birthday and they immediately welcomed her with a 'Happy Birthday' and a glass of prossecco. Such a lovely touch. The service was excellent and very attentive. I would not hesitate to recommend and we will definitely be returning.
