While Tamworth is widely known as the capital of Australian country music, it’s not often celebrated for its restaurant scene. However, this venue has changed all that.

Housed within one of the town's most iconic heritage buildings is The Pig and Tinderbox.

Proudly part of The Central Hospitality Group, this innovative modern restaurant tends to be packed out most nights with tropical decor and a menu that focuses on sharing. There is also an impressive drinks list with plenty of craft beers and cocktail jugs on offer.

The unusual name harks back to the old-school pubs of the past, but "The Pig" (better known to the locals) is something that will be sticking around well into the future.

Our meals were excellent. Husband orders a whole snapper and it was boned . Delicious flavours

Leave at least 2 hours if you have a show to go to afterwards. We had to leave without our food. Very disappointing.

It was a cold night in Tamworth. Despite knowing it was warm and cosy inside, we decided to brave the cold. Blankets were provided to make sure we were warm. The Arancini was delicious, moist with wonderful porcini flavour. The spring rolls were crisp. I decided on the octopus special and it was soft and tasty. The Chicken Abodo was the other mildly smokey, tender and tasty main. The staff were attentive and we had a lovely night. Recommend visiting here if in Tamworth.

Attentive staff. Food was served in a reasonable time. Restaurant is noisy but the quality of service and food far outweighs this.

There was a great buzz about the Pig and Tinder Box on Friday evening, with everyone getting ready for the weekend. While we had to wait 15 minutes for our booked table, we know how easy it is for earlier guests to run over, so it wasn't a problem. Once seated we had a fabulous meal - my Squid was cooked to perfection and served with a delicious homemade tartare sauce. My Mains - a Red Snapper, was truly amazing. A whole, well bodied fish, deboned in advance (a first in my experience) and flavoursome with the sharp tang of the lemon and garlic sauce which included little pieces of lemon rind - delightful. Both my partner and I absolutely loved it.

Food was delicious, had entrees, mains and dessert and couldn't fault anything. Staff very attentive and friendly.

Unfortunately I wasn’t given a booth for my husband and I as requested. Seating is closer than I would like to others. Very large loud party going on at a table so it was quite distracting. It wasn’t the romantic date night I was looking for last week. The food was tasty and we enjoyed the wine. They did mess up my husband’s beer order. Next time if the weather is nice I will request a table on the porch.
