The Plough Shiplake, pub & dining room that prides itself on offering a delicious, seasonal menu with an excellent drinks selection. The Plough makes you feel special, and at home, all at the same time.

The menu itself is the perfect combination of reinvented pub favourites, with interesting and culinarily creative signature dishes. As well as having a reputation for the best cocktails in Oxfordshire.

The building has been lovely restored; creating a homely, yet modern atmosphere, where it's easy to get lost in conversation for hours. Every table has been given an unique touch and the open fire creates warmth, in both meanings of the word.

Really lovely warm welcome and speediness to direct you to your table. Twice we have had the corner table which is very close to the fire so you need to enjoy the heat if you sit there. Food menu is limited but I happen to think in general this is a good thing for everyone. I expect the food offered to be of the best quality as the chefs do not have an abundance of meals to prepare so the ones they do serve need to be spot on. A good Sunday roast is normally filling enough so we had a couple of small plates instead of a starter. Bothe croquettes one ham and one cauliflower. The creamy oozing cauliflower one was top notch and the ham one was ok but I felt it was very salty so maybe for some too much. I had the porchetta roast and it was absolutely knockout. Really cooked well with crispy crackling and divine roast potatoes. An offering of vegetables a mix of carrot, broccoli and leeks was for me spot on. I struggled to finish my plate and unheard of I left a roast potato! A glass of wine, a couple of bottles of water and coffee is not cheap but if you want to come away feeling as though you have enjoyed a treat that many think they can do better at home think again. I would go back again next sunday.

Cocktails tailored for us (including a smoked old fashioned and a old fashioned with mescal), amazing food (sharing starters - worth having just for brioche and salted butters, mouth watering short rib and bavette ending with beautiful and delicious desserts); fantastic wine - really spoilt for choice, topped with friendly service with expert knowledge. Gets better every time we come. Best restaurant in Henley area by mile.

Very nice setting, relaxing atmosphere and very good attentive service. Menu choice is good - fish meat and vegetarian. Very well presented, freshly cooked. Didn’t have starters or desserts but they sounded good. Would definitely go back again.

The Plough is really fine tuning its offering and has gone from reliable to excellent and somewhere top of my list when considering eating locally (we’re in Henley). Nice ambience, fantastic staff and delicious food. My only niggle is a monkfish dish at £39 without a side was very modest - and don’t think you should have to order sides at that price for a main. Other than that it’s worth a visit if you are nearby and they update the seasonal menu regularly. It’s great to have restaurants like this in this area as in Henley itself I find it too chain biased.
