Hotel restaurants invariably let themselves down. Not sure why! In our case, a mundane ambiance and room, and inexperienced server, who essentially doubled as bartender often, leaving service to be very sketchy. We were a party of 7. The four appetizers, two of which were soup, took approximately 45 minutes to arrive. The soup was inedible as it resembled a bowl of vinegar. For the main courses, everything that had any type of sauce (NY Strip, lamb rack) were so salty that they were hard to finish. Very poor choice for food in a culinary vibrant city. My bill was almost $500 and not a single party member enjoyed their meal. Struck off the food list permanently. Not a good restaurant.

We arrived promptly at five when they were to open, and had to wait a few minutes for service. Our waiter was obviously pressured as he was the bartender and the waiter. He did work hard, running around taking care of everyone, but it was obvious that the restaurant was understaffed and he had a bit of an attitude, but softened a little during the course of the meal. All in all I have to give it a just ok.

We found the food to be good to exceptional. The staff was overwhelmed & could not keep up with the number of diners. It took almost two hours for the dining experience.

We walked in on a Friday evening and the restaurant was empty. We should have walked back out. The waiter was good and engaging, but not overly knowledgeable. The appetizers were very good, but the entrees were terrible. Hamburgers were very thin and overcooked to what was ordered and the buns were dry. The Sole was okay, but not very favorable. Just not an enjoyable meal at all.

The 1904 World's Fair dinner held jointly with the MIssouri Historical Society was OUTSTANDING. I would like the Executive Chef, and all the other chefs to know we appreciated their enthusiasm for the dishes they created. We would attend a dinner like this again in a heartbeat. I know the Preston does wine dinners, but we preferred the signature drinks served with each course. Not everyone is a wine aficionado, and the signature drinks are much more fun.
