The Salt Line, the popular DC homage to New England’s iconic fish and oyster houses, brings a second location to Arlington’s burgeoning Ballston neighborhood. Just one year in, The Salt Line has already established itself as one of the top dining spots in Northern Virginia. Executive Chef Matt Singer is leading the kitchen team in partnership with award winning Long Shot Hospitality Chef/Partner Kyle Bailey. The Salt Line is where "New England meets the Chesapeake" so guests can expect the same New England classics and renowned raw bar found at the original location, along with lots of new chef driven fish and seafood entrees, house-made pastas, exciting selections of crudos, and of course the best lobster rolls around.

In addition to dining, the welcoming year round outdoor bar (tented in the winter) has also become a favorite neighborhood gathering spot and is the perfect place to enjoy The Salt Line's signature beverage program and grab what many say is the best burger in town.

Host was great as soon as we walked in, our waitress was on top of things even though it was busy! Their oysters were great and their crab dip has got to be one of the best things on the menu! Their clam chowder & entrees were great as well & love their spritz’s!

We had an 8 PM reservation but weren’t seated until 9 PM. The staff acknowledged the delay but brushed it off, laughing and saying, "The table is closed out but not leaving lol." Our server was barely around, so when my order was wrong, I couldn’t even get it corrected. Despite plenty of open seats inside, we were placed outside in a cramped corner near the bar, surrounded by people drinking. The menu was unclear and overpriced, and for the cost, I expected much better service and food quality. No one acknowledged us when we left, and small amenities like toothpicks and salt water taffy—things that add a nice touch—were missing. Overall, a frustrating and disappointing experience.

At first I was not impressed with the limited offerings for Restaurant Week. However, it turned out this was a great choice. The clam chowder was very light but wonderful and a full bowl. The spicy shrimp sandwich which was excellent came with a huge amount of home made fries. The dessert was a big bowl of chocolate mousse with nuts and small marshmallows on top and brownie underneath! I would have ordered any one of these by itself but for the special $35 restaurant week price it was great!

Fantastic service. Our server (older gentleman -didn’t get his name) was very thorough and went over all menu options for us. Service was efficient and non invasive. Nice ambiance and the food was out standing.

We had been wanting to try Salt Line for some time, and restaurant week seemed to be a good occasion. We went with another couple and were quickly seated indoors, where we had a reservation. From that point on, our experience was disappointing. While the servers were very friendly, there was total confusion with our order. Drinks were wrong, water was unfilled, we received another table's oyster appetizer ( we did not have to pay), appetizers came out at different times and required our asking for them, entrees were ok but nothing special. The only one satisfied with her meal was the friend who ordered the Portuguese stew. Also the music was quite loud and annoying. Again...friendly staff, but we won't be back.
