Hiraeth; a term unique to Wales and Welsh culture, an intangible pull on the heart that conveys a deep sense of belonging, the desire to return to the place of one’s birth, to come home. For The Shed Restaurant and Executive Chef Jonathan Woolway, our place in the world is happily Swansea.
Composed along the expanse of Swansea Bay, flanked by the Gower Peninsula and Brecon Beacons, within striking distance of the fertile valleys, coastal plains and farmland of West Wales, the Waterfront City of Swansea sits at the beating heart of nature’s larder. Bounties of the season from land, sea and pasture are at our fingertips.
Our daily changing menus reflect a constant creative evolution, making use of local produce at the very place and moment of their seasonal prime. This begins in the kitchen and is realised at the table; Egalitarian, convivial and accessible to all. Full in heart and generous of spirit.

Food was amazing. Our waitress Ruby was fabulous, very attentive and with a warm bubbly nature about her. The atmosphere was great. Superb location. Can be a little bit pricey

We had a lovely evening for our son’s Birthday. The food was amazing and the service was great, a special thank you to Ruby and Nel.

Fabulous restaurant. Absolutely delicious food, charming waiters. We had a great meal and really enjoyed the experience.

I believe this restaurant would do very well in somewhere like London or a bigger city in England. However this is not an establishment suited to swansea due to the prices charged. We ate as a table of 7 at 7pm on a Friday night and firstly, I was really put off by how empty the restaurant was at this prime time. We thought it would fill up but it remained empty most of the night. The staff were very attentive, but our server was a little dull and monotone. They said they would explain the menu to us but instead just read what we could already read. I also laughed out loud when then made a huge point about offering us “complimentary water” as if it was something special. The only good thing about the restaurant being empty is that we had very quick service and clean up. The most important part about this review is of course the food, and all I can say is: it is not worth the price. The food is basic yet tasty, although sometimes way too salty. Overall I can sum up by saying: good quality food, prepared in an average way and charged as though we were in central London.

We arrived at the restaurant in time for our reservation but couldn’t find any parking. We went around and around in a traffic nightmare until we finally called the restaurant and were told to park on the other side of the river and take the foot bridge. This was key information to provide ahead of time to diners and would have meant we didn’t arrive flustered and 30 minutes late.

As usual, excellent food and services. The new Sunday lunch menu offers traditional Sunday lunch items alongside the usual range of Shed menu items all of the highest quality and flavour staff are all pleasant and helpful, looking forward already to our next visit

The table, the setting and the staff were very attentive, knowledgeable and friendly, couldn’t fault them. But the food was not of the standard I would expect. We always rate a place when we go out to eat, which we do a lot, and unfortunately we wouldn’t rush back to you.
