The Spread Eagle Restaurant offers diners a perfect balance of old and new with an accomplished menu of modern classic British food served in the hotel historic restaurant. The candlelit restaurant with its huge inglenook fireplace is a wonderful venue for everything from a romantic dinner for two to a family lunch.

In the warmer months lunch is also served in the more relaxed atmosphere of the Conservatory and Terrace. And the hotel's inner courtyard offers a discreet spot for al fresco dining. Private dining for parties or business meetings is available in The Spread Eagle's private dining rooms rooms.

The Spread Eagle Gin Bar offers more than 100 different gins - some more unusual than others - and over 12 different tonics on offer, guests can create their own gin journey and complete their cocktail from a menu of fresh garnishes, many home-grown from the hotel garden.

We love this restaurant and the hotel. The building is so historic and atmospheric. The restaurant is always good and the staff are real gems. We love Sunday lunch here and and dinner never disappoints. Midhurst is a lovely place to walk around to build up an appetite before enjoying the spoils that the Spread Eagle has to offer

Fabulous afternoon tea - lots of options and they were quite happy to cater for different tastes and slightly fussy eaters by preparing sandwiches that were non-standard, so that we could all enjoy it together. It felt very special

Had afternoon tea with my friend and colleague. We were celebrating her birthday. Horace and his staff ensured we were given the best attention and service. The tea was delightful and delicious. We were seated by a roaring log fire ad it was perfect. Will come again

I was disappointed with our recent visit to the spread eagled hotel. We went for Sunday lunch and the atmosphere was very formal and stiff, I felt like I needed to whisper so as not to disturb other diners and kept telling my children to 'ssshhhhh'! Not very relaxed at all. It being Sunday lunch I ordered the Roast Beef which was very disappointing, the beef was undercooked and the vegetables quite limp. Even the Yorkshire pudding was rather chewy. My husband's chicken looked much more appealing and he told me he enjoyed it. Price wise it was ok but £4.80 for a pint of soda and lime is a bit of a rip off! The one aspect that was very good was the waiting staff, they were all very attentive and polite, if a bit formal. Well we shan't be going back I'm afraid and nor would I recommend it to others.
