The Springwood can be summed up effectively as a neighborhood restaurant, whose values, regarding the menu, focus greatly on locally sourced ingredients, hyper-seasonality, regenerative farming practices and minimizing waste.

The restaurant is the brainchild of local entrepreneurs Matthew Simpson (Chef) and Jasmine Lee (General Manager). Partners in business and in life since 2007.

To further their knowledge of the Hospitality industry they made their way to Downtown Toronto, where they were able to hone their crafts working in upscale and well-known restaurants for nine years. The end goal was always assured though, that they would come back to the town that gave them their start and help bring a special space to the place that they grew up.

As you make your way inside, you will be met with warm wood, lush plant life and funky art deco accents. We want this space to feel as though you are stepping into our home and we welcome you all to Come Over for Dinner.

The restaurant was incredibly cute and the ambiance was perfection. The prices are expensive; as such we did go in with high expectations to celebrate my husband’s birthday. My husband ordered a steak but it was a very fatty piece and he was offput with the first couple of bites. I ordered the scallops and the presentation was beautiful but the dish was barely warm - it’s like they plated it and forgot to bring it out. The quality of food is not at par with the price point. Restaurant is overall well reviewed, so not sure if other entrees are better options. We also had the squid, which was decent and the sunchokes; which we enjoyed but didn’t realize was deep fried. The staff were incredibly friendly and very conversational; we didn’t feel comfortable complaining about the food, so we just smiled politely, paid and left.

The food was delicious, my fiancé and I couldn’t stop looking at each other after each bite we shared! So nice to have a shared plates experience local to Durham Region, and to have a restaurant that cares about serving local and sustainable ingredients. Every bite was just mouth-watering! Also, every single staff member was incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable. We felt very.. taken care of, Jasmine provided exceptional service! Every detail is so special, you can tell that this team really cares and that they love what they do. Will be recommending The Springwood to everyone! Can’t wait to return.

What an incredible restaurant!!!!!! Best bread and butter I had ever eaten in my life! Our server was wonderful and so funny! I completely forget her name but she had a 2 or 3 year old daughter named Penelope. Please let her know she made our experience so wonderful. We would 1000% come back, what a gem in Whitby.

We've been to The Springwood a few times, but this was the first time trying the "Tasting Menu", $55 each - with a couple of little substitutions. We loved this way of ordering - will definitely do this again. And of course, as always, the meal was delicious, the staff is welcoming, knowledgeable and friendly, just the best treat to have a meal here !!!1

Exceptional service, thank you Erin. The recommendations were point on, I never thought I could enjoy an Ontario wine. The experience was point on. From free parking, to a lovely reception and a brilliant meal, it was an excellent evening. 😊
