The Telegraph was named after Admiralty Telegraph, a shutter station which stood on this site from 1796-1848 to convey messages between London and Portsmouth at the time of the Napoleonic Wars. We would describe ourselves as a country pub at heart, set in a beautiful area, spoilt for choice for lovely walks through our neighbouring parkland.
Our bar is at the heart of everything, crammed with local ales and jam packed shelves full of everything you could wish for. You can choose to drink or dine over two floors or sit in our garden and watch the world go by.

We offer a range of delicious fresh dishes each day from hearty pub classics to something a little more exotic and have a well-stocked wine cellar to accompany your choices.

Food was very good pub standard food. Well prepared. Music was loud and unfortunatley the staff were unable to moderate it as the system didn't have variability for output. Service was very attentive. That day there were some staff issues which the manager handled very well.

We went to the Steam Packet for a meal a couple of night ago and had a lovely time. The food was excellent and the service from the young lads could not be faulted. They were very pleasant and enthusiastic about the food and drink they were serving

The service was swift and the Food was very good. The Noise Level unfortunately was very high. This was the second time in a row where it was too loud which is ok if you are part of a crowd. If you like it quiet lunch, don’t go there on a Saturday!

The service and ambience are great, as is the location on the river, so I’d come here again just for a drink and avoid the food, which was surprisingly bad. I hate to say it but it was the worst roast I’ve ever had. We ordered two salads that both came undressed- completely dry. Onion soup was basically salt water.

Very nice Sunday luch, initial service a bit slow of the mark and needed some prompting, we dined upstairs on a very sunny day and it was like a greenhouse in there, they opened the doors but were told the awning blinds were not working so had to sit and cook in the sunlight, this needs to be sorted. Food was excellent, went for Lamb Pie and sausage and mach - with a starter of the charcuterie all of which was delicious.

The steampacket is beautifully decorated and has a lovely atmosphere but that is where the positives end. The service was absolutely shocking! We were pointed to a table, by a waitress who was more focused on cleaning glasses behind the bar, we weren’t given menus so had to get them ourselves, no one told us we need to order at the bar so we were sat waiting for ages until another couple asked what the situation was - bearing in mind there were only three couples in the restaurant at this point so the wait staff were not busy. When the coffee came over it was cold, and after we had ordered and paid we were told one of the meals couldn’t be fulfilled because they were out of smoked salmon (which actually impacted both meals). No apology and more interested in moving furniture than serving customers. On the whole, a pretty terrible experience.
