The Tatong Tavern is an English Style Country Inn situated in the small community of Tatong only 25 kilometres drive from Benalla. Set in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range it's the perfect place to eat & stay.

Set in the picturesque Tatong Valley, the Tatong Tavern is a lovely Old English tavern that will tickle your fancy. Whether you’re after a cool ale in the garden or a glass of red by the fire, served with delicious, tasty meals made with local produce, there is something for everyone.

Tatong Tavern service was friendly, and the service was quick, all meals came out together which is rare these days. Only disappointment was we were told there was no coffee as the machine was broken. Was not offered instant coffee or a cup of tea in its place. Took the edge off a lovely girls day out

Lovely setting. We sat outside on a beautiful evening. Fantastic waiter. She was bubbly, patient and great at her job.

Fantastic little country pub with an old world atmosphere. Staff are fantastic and always friendly, the outdoor garden area is a good dining area as well. Great value for money

We were the only people for dinner. It was obvious that we were just a nuisance and they’d rather we left as soon as possible. At 8.30pm they started locking up, looking at their watches and regularly asking if we wanted anything else. Code for leave as soon as possible! We were celebrating a birthday & as a treat asked for something for dessert that was off the menu but very simple to do. No way. We were a party of 6 & none of us will go there again while the current owners and staff are there. It was very disappointing.

I am sorry you felt that way. As you say you were the only ones left in a restaurant that normally closes at 8pm during the weekdays as advertised online and on site, so the staff did in fact stay open later than normal by almost an hour for you and your guests. It is disappointing to hear that you did not appreciate that. With no chef on site after 8pm when the special dessert request was made the staff had to refuse because they cannot just make special desserts they are untrained to make for food safety reasons no matter how simple you think it is. The owner was on site on Wednesday so you could have escalated a complaint to them in person and we would have attempted to fix the issue on the night rather than having you resort to having to post this review on a small rural business.
