Liam and the team behind The Boat are proud to bring to you a modern neighbourhood pub in the beautiful village of Barton-Under-Needwood.

Soak up sun in the garden with a cocktail, or in the winter find a seat inside next to the log burner. Our focus is on modern pub classics with a twist.

Offering breakfast at weekends and a classic Sunday Lunch. We also have space for hire, for private parties, birthdays, meetings or even to kick back for a sporting event.

Inspired by Betty and Peggy our 4 legged residents at our sister restaurant The Boat, where we’ve cultivated our land for crops and created a sustainable eco-system with a focus on reducing waste.

The best Sunday roast I’ve had in a long time, can’t wait to return. Excellent service in spite of a full restaurant.

Overall experience was amazing, the place has been transformed to a lovely restaurant and a very high standard. Food was amazing and staff very attentive and polite. Will definitely be returning thanks for a lovely meal.

Short but well-chosen menu. Quality of dishes is excellent (especially for a pub). Some teething problems with service (it was a very busy service but it seems every day is busy at the moment). Decor is excellent - the right balance of smart and cosy but the ambience is the venue’s biggest challenge; the preponderance of hard surfaces makes the environment far too noisy. A few more soft furnishings are needed!

Food was delicious. Service was incredibly slow. Our booking was 7:30 and we didn’t even receive our “nibbles” until 8:30. The waitress was lovely but the kitchen is clearly either overwhelmed or very inefficient. The room was very noisy - no soft furnishings to absorb the noise of a very full restaurant.

The food was excellent but from a limited choice. Service was good, apart from a short delay between the provision of one of the sides after the main dish had been served. The waitress was very pleasant - Megan. The stairs were not pleasant to climb or descend. We would only eat downstairs next time. It was also very noisy upstairs and there was a dull bass sound which made it worse. The cost was reasonable, although sides were needed as many dishes came without vegetables. The cost of my wife's white wine spritzer was fine but I was astonished at the cost of a 250ml glass of Pinot Noir. I was unaware of this as no wine list was provided. Unless I misread the bill, it was £17 - I dread to think of the cost of a bottle!

Had the sirloin of beef, which was excellent. So tender, the whole lunch was gorgeous. Sticky toffee was delicious.

Such a lovely place to eat out with friends. We sat upstairs for our meal, a lovely environment. But also great to walk through a bustling bar! A great atmosphere. The food was outstanding and great value. Best scotch eggs ever! Our waitress was lovely and very attentive. We will definitely be going again.

Food was very good however portions were a little on the small side...the main criticism would be that the upstairs room in which we ate was rather on the cool side
