Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
The Waring House offers a charming ambiance and "delicious, hot food." Guests appreciated the "friendly service" and fair pricing. However, experiences varied, with some noting service delays and menu limitations. The atmosphere is quiet, featuring intimate performances, but management issues have been mentioned. Ideal for "special occasions" with room for improvement in service efficiency.

Very Nice Spot. Dining Room has an old time Farmhouse / Cottage like feel to it. It was busy on a Friday night approaching Christmas, so perhaps more noisy than normal. Food was very good with some uniquely cool features to choose from. Everything was very good, although I could not call anything exceptional. ....correction; the coconut cream pie is EXCEPTIONAL. While there is lots of parking, very little of it is in immediately close proximity. It was also on the expensive side, not to the point of regretting the experience, but certainly to the point of 2nd guessing how quickly we would go back. I wonder if we can buy the pie to go.

Waring House kitchen was backed up. 30 minutes between courses. Soup had a film on it. Main courses were over cooked. Ate proteins because we were hungry after waiting an hour. Vegetables were burnt. We didn't eat them. We settled check with a 10% discount. We didn't stay around for dessert course, even though we payed for it as part of the Countylicious event. No tip was provided, except a cash tip was provided to the waitress. It wasn't her fault that kitchen was backed up and the meal was a disaster. I won't recommend the Waring House restaurant.

Had a confirmed lunch reservation for Countylicious last Sunday. There were a few people at the bar but no one in the dining room, where we had the reservation. We were told by a server that the dining room had been shut down because there was no demand, and that we could sit in the bar area. We left. The diningroom and the bar are not interchangeable, even if the menu were available. Since the restaurant had my email address, why didn't someone notify me in advance? We took our guest elsewhere and had a great lunch. To me this incident was not only an example of terrible customer service, but also an indication that participating restaurants need to reevaluate both the rationale behind Countilicious and the way it is carried out. Are there too many restaurants participating? Are you really offering value to your customer? How is your Countilicious menu perceived? Is an effort being made? Why would a creditable dining room not have cusstomers for Sunday lunch?

There was obviously something going on with the kitchen. Half the already limited menu was not available. No dinner rolls because “the yeast was left out”, was brought the wrong appetizer and while it was replaced with the right one the reason given was that the kitchen was running low on your choice so they sent the other one out instead, my entree was missing the sauce and when I inquired I was told that everyone working in the kitchen had left, and didn’t have many of the wines on the menu. The food we did get was pretty good but the experience was not great.

The restaurant does not play music so it's quiet chatter from the tables around you. Wasn't a fan of the ostrich stroganoff. Food took almost an hour to come out but our waitress was very kind about it.

We were married at The Waring House in 2016 and despite remaining local, it has taken too long to return! My sister arranged a special night at a local theatre event and I wanted to treat her and her daughter to a Countylicious they wouldn't forget. As remembered, the food was gorgeous. A very intimate pianist performance in Amelia's garden set the tone. Our drinks were yummy and prepared with great care. Sadly, the service was poor. The staff seemed panicked and spread too thin. As mentioned, we had a theatre performance to attend which we let the server know at the beginning of the night - noting 1.5hrs until we needed to depart. Each course took painfully long to bring out; so much so that we needed to take our dessert in carryout boxes. Each course came with a reminder that we needed to leave for a previous engagement ... to the extent that we asked for carryout containers, ordered take-away desserts and requested the bill when our entrées arrived. Everyone was friendly but no apologies were made and no attempt to rectify the experience. Unfortunately, it soured the tone of the evening (a very busy Saturday). I've previously worked in the industry for six years and have a lot of empathy for our fellow servers. This night now however, fell far below expectations.

Overall the food and service were excellent. Don't think I would have the Ostrich again but that may be my personal taste.

A lovely evening and dinner Only suggestion would be to have a senior’s menu as there was far too much food. We did take home some of it but a Senior’s/smaller portion menu would have been great
