Seems to rely heavily on convenience factor for hotel guests with small children. Many better places for the cost for locals or those willing to drive. Food is and drinks have some character but are very expensive. Ambiance is sterile as can be expected of a corporate kitchen. Service is slow and impersonal. Also, from the perspective of a New Mexican, not Southwestern food.

The Romaine salad: the taste of the ingredients is good, but salad is completely overdressed. The wagyu NY strip is not as tender as expected. It was sinewy and the rub/sauce got in the way of the steak instead of enhancing it. The purple yam is ok. Mostly gimmicky. The octopus was tasty but served lukewarm. Overall, the meal was ok. Instead of getting dessert, we cut our losses and went next door to get a coffee and cupcake instead.

We had 3 of us for dinner at Tia Carmen. The space is very nice with a lot of different materials and textures. Our server greeted us promptly and we took a look at the menu. She explains the concept of Chef Sosa's menu and suggested many things that she thought we might like to enjoy. Cocktails 2 of us had the 5 Citrus sprit which was light and refreshing. I had the Weihenstephan Hefeweiss beer which was tasty. Food wise we ordered the suggested Pan fritto , their version of bread and the romaine salad, both were delicious. next we had the Tuna crudo which is small but very flavorful with the spicy corn broth. next was the guisado ala Carmen which is this very flavorful stew like dish that had so many things going on. and the Market fish ala plancha which was also very tasty. All in all a very nice dinner. A very delicious dinner!

I was impressed with our first visit to Tia Carmen, especially for a hotel restaurant. While there were not a large number of options on the menu that sounded especially appetizing, the ones I chose (tuna crudo appetizer and Denver steak entree) were excellent. We also had a very nice server who was highly knowledgeable and attentive. The wine list by the glass was unfortunately very subpar and needs work. The charge for valet parking is annoying and distracting (especially since it is so uncommon for this area), and it’s unfortunate that’s the last impression left from what was mostly a positive experience. This place is worth another try in a month or so.

We arrived to find that it was a buffet filled with tourists and small children. We expected a high end sit down dinner. We tried to leave and they threatened to charge us $150. Definitely not worth what we paid. Won't be returning.
