Top Roe is a Yōshoku Japanese restaurant located in the heart of Downtown Austin, Texas coming from the creative culinary mind of Executive Chef Paul Qui offering two experiences under one roof: Top Roe Handroll and Top Roe Izakaya.

Top Roe's Handroll counter is a 12-seat counter serving fresh handrolls, which are exclusively offered at the handroll counter to preserve the quality of each ingredient, as they should be enjoyed. Expect a quicker dining experience of about 45 minutes: tasty bites to start your night! We also offer select small bites from the izakaya menu.

Top Roe's Izakaya menu offers an extended menu and dining experience to it's handroll counterpart. Here you'll find our signature Tuna Toro Steak and Wagyu steaks, along with delicious Yakimonos (grilled dishes), Agemonos (fried dishes), Sashimis, Salads, and more.

                                                                            Great food, the hand roll bar was a great experience. Would highly recommend trying the place when visiting Austin. They also had several high all cocktails which were also great. Lovely date spot.

                                                                            Stopped in for an early dinner before a show and discovered Happy Hour on a Saturday! Same delicious food at a discount! Great deals on food, beers, sake and highballs - will be back! Food was perfectly prepared and the sushi was so fresh.

Loved the space--it was cozy and inviting and interesting ... best bite on the menu was the hamachi sashimi (but it was a close call--the fish hand rolls were all amazing).

                                                                            We loved every aspect of dining at Top Roe and plan to return frequently to explore more of the innovative and well-executed menu. Authentic and thoughtful service from Michael made our visit memorable, and several table visits from Brittany demonstrate that the manager is hands-on and involved. Right before the incredible Hamachi kama came to our table, she delivered warm hand towels, a thoroughly Japanese touch that impressed me. Small details stood out: housemade pickled ginger and vegetables; excellent music; incense and candles upon entry....an all around tranquil vibe conducive to appreciating the delicate cuisine.

                                                                            Wow, I fell hard for the food here- what an outstanding surprise. This is a hidden gem in downtown Austin and while I want to tell everyone, sometimes it's nice to keep a secret. We sat at the counter for the hand-roll experience. My tongue was twerking with each bite of the delectable goodness that arrived freshly made before me. Crunchy Tuna, Spicy Salmon, Blue Crab, Wagyu Beef, Shrimp Tempura, and The Trinity hand rolls-it was hard to stop. How could I pick a favorite? Each one was a chef's masterpiece! It would be a crime if I didn't mention that the sashimi dishes were so mind-blowing that we ordered another for dessert after already having two to begin our meal. Shame on me for not coming here sooner. I won't make that mistake again-we will be back soon!
