    Join Chef Rick Bayless and Chef Richard Sandoval for a 5-course Viva Abejas-inspired feast paired with agave spirits and bespoke cocktails at Chef Sandoval’s newest Chicago restaurant, Toro. On one night only, you can experience two world-renowned chefs join forces to support Viva Abejas and Frontera Farmer Foundation. Chef Richard Sandoval's Viva Abejas initiative is designed to inspire future generations about the critical role of bees in our ecosystems and the vital connection between food, the environment and sustainability. Viva Abejas supports The World Bee Project and has a goal to educate 60,000 young learners annually. The Frontera Farmer Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, is committed to promoting small, sustainable farms serving the Chicago area by providing them with capital development grants. The Foundation envisions a year-round interchange between sustainable farmers and consumers, including farmers’ market patrons and chefs, in which seasonal local agriculture provides the foundation for sustainable regional cuisine. Doors will open at 5:30pm. Service will begin at 6pm.

The ambiance is modern and inviting, with beautifully plated dishes that reflect the restaurant’s creativity and attention to detail. The ceviche was a vibrant start, with fresh seafood complemented by citrus, chiles, and herbs, offering a balanced mix of heat and acidity. The octopus was perfectly charred and tender, served with a creamy sauce that enhanced its smoky depth. The truffle mashed potatoes were rich and velvety, with crispy roasted potatoes adding a textural contrast. The sushi roll was visually appealing and packed with bold flavors, though slightly overpowered by the sauces. Service was professional and attentive, with staff ensuring a smooth dining experience. While most dishes impressed, a few elements—like slightly heavy-handed seasoning on some plates—kept this from being a perfect five-star experience.

    We went to Toro to celebrate my boyfriend’s 30th birthday. When I got there, they had a table placement that acknowledged his birthday, which I thought was very nice. The staff, from the hostess, to servers, to the manager all said happy birthday.

    What a great new addition to the Chicago restaurant scene. Food was fantastic and the service spot on. On recommendation, started with swordfish dip, it was gone in no time and enjoyed by all. Next lobster maki and octopus. Both were hits. Made the brilliant decision to order the churrasco. All four meats presented were just delicious. We shared all and it was the perfect amount of food for 3 hungry adults. Freddie our server, Sebastian the service manager and James the beverage manager took great care of us. The restaurant General Manager stopped by a few times too! The wandering sax player playing along with the dj was a nice touch. Great night!

    We had a birthday dinner tonight and service was poor. The restaurant was not busy at 7:30pm. Initially, it seemed great then we rarely saw our server. Water never refilled. Two out of the 3 of us received our dishes and the third dish was two sushi rolls that arrived after other two finished meal. A manager and our server were involved. The manager offered to comp a desert but we decided to leave after eating instead. The manager did not do anything to our check and were charged full price for terrible service.

    This date experience was not great at this restaurant. First we were seated all the way at the end. The person the walked us to the table was at least a 10 feet ahead not looking back to see if we were following he was walking so fast I looked at my husband like I already feel this not going be good vibe look…. We sat at the end right corner the vibe was not there felt like we were just put in a corner and abandoned. Our waiter didn’t come til 10 minutes just to tell us I’ll be with you guys soon. We sat an extra 8 minutes. The drinks took forever to come out. The appetizer took a long time also and our food forget about it! Our waiter seemed very distracted and unfocused. And didn’t remember things like at the end we asked for the bill that was an extra 12 minutes. He was tending to other table felt like he might’ve got a bigger tip there but underestimated our table even though he deserved 0 tip he got $20 if it was great service he would’ve definitely got 100+ His responses to things to recommend was “everything good just order what you like” That was very awkward He was not confident and seem rushed The bathroom was filthy! No toilet paper no tissues to dry hands the toilet was dirty I didn’t even use it I stepped out I felt disgusted. Me and my husband are high end diners and spend good dollar for experiences and excellent service … this place was not worth it or recommend it to any of my colleagues or family
