We've always enjoyed Tortino, but the last time was a bit of a disappointment. The gnocchi were terrific, as was the tiramisu, but the branzino and other pasta dishes were only so-so. Although the waiter was helpful friendly and efficient, when they brought out the dishes, the servers had no idea who ordered what. It was New Year's Eve and quite busy, and the noise levels were unusually high.

This is my go-to neighborhood gem in the Mcpherson neighborhood. It is far enough out of the way to keep tourists out, it is tucked away downstairs but feels like a local NYC Italian restaurant.

Recently returned from Piedmont and wanted a good Italian dinner on a visit to DC. Had never been to Tortino before but thought we’d try it. Very glad we did! Food was excellent and authentic. Pasta was handmade, and the braised lamb ravioli was the same as in Milano. Great friendly service. Reasonable prices. We will return. Highly recommend.

What a gem, unpretentious and delicious. A nice local spot, definitely worth a visit. Even wine/cocktails are reasonable. Not cheap, but good value without fussiness. Would return if staying in the area.
