Trattoria Il Panino is the kind of place that one would expect to find along the Amalfi Coast. It is a warm, friendly, unpretentious and a food-focused environment. From the casual and positive energy of the atmosphere and waitstaff, to the serious and professional energy of the kitchen, the front
and back of the house form a desirable marriage. The entrance on 260 Hanover street has a full liquor license.

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Trattoria Il Panino in Boston's North End is a delightful spot for authentic Italian cuisine, consistently praised for "amazing food" and a "fantastic dining experience." With standout dishes like "best lasagna ever" and a memorable ambiance featuring a basement wine cellar vibe, it promises an unforgettable meal. Service is generally friendly and attentive, though the bustling atmosphere can be quite loud, with seating sometimes cramped. Great food served on stainless steel tables. How about a table cloth for the prices?

My friend who went to university in Boston recommended this place. I was very unimpressed. Maybe because I’m spoiled by the authentic Italian food we have in San Francisco. My party ordered the Caesar salad, meatballs, calamari, carbonara, and porcini ravioli. Caesar salad reminded me of a salad mix you can get at any store- nothing special. Meatballs had absolutely no flavor so I took one bite and put it back- not edible in my opinion. Calamari was not seasoned and we pretty much left it untouched. I usually love carbonara but I typically only get the authentic type which never has cream. The cream in this dish took over all the flavors and was just milky pasta so the cheese or guanciale flavor was missing. Porcini ravioli was good. Probably the only dish worth ordering. I haven’t been to any other Italian place in North End but I’m sure there are plenty of better options.

Server was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. Food was great… not the biggest portions, but quite filling. Ambience was nice.

Hit and miss. I have been craving Cacio e Pepe pasta so for my birthday dinner we tried this place. We love Bricco, so why not? We started with meatballs-amazing!! However, my pasta was a big miss. Mushy and tasteless. My husband and friends enjoyed their dinners-rated them an 8. Our waiter was a 10!

Excellent dinner last evening, although the restaurant was extremely busy, the service was still excellent. Veal chop was delicious as was the chicken parmigiana.

We have been to this restaurant countless times. The food was as good as always but tonight the service was a miss. Our waitress took over 15 minutes to initially greet our table and didn’t seem to realize when she finally did come over that we had been sitting waiting so long. The restaurant was not yet busy (we had a 430 reservation). She checked in one time during the meal after taking our order then when we were finished we asked for the check. We then watched her chat and laugh with a bartender for a few minutes then keep walking by us to other tables. The bus boy did seem to notice and took great care of us getting us water before she greeted us and seemed to alert her that we were sitting there with coats on ready to leave because she took so long. Would come back as this is the first time service has been so terrible.

the foods really declined since covid :( used to be my favorite spot in the north end. tonight, 2 of the 5 of our dishes were not hot when we got the meals. it also spend like a toilet in the downstairs part of the restaurant where we ate. just really disappointed with it here nowadays. will probably find a new spot to go to from here on out.

The food and service are always quite good at Il Panino. The waiter was accommodating and helped one of our party to create a special vegetarian dish made to order. Even though it came with the wrong pasta, she still enjoyed it. The dining room tied to the bar is noisy but not atypical for the North End. Also, lights too dim to read the menu! But these little things won’t keep me away in the future.

Authentic North End Italian eatery that does not disappoint. Another of the DePasquale Ventures culinary experiences that serves fresh Italian favorites and in a sprawling old North End building on famous Hanover Street. Parking can be challenging, but the food-- and service-- is worth the venture.
