Located in the picturesque bayside suburb of Black Rock, True South holds prime position as the areas best and biggest Restaurant, Bar & Function Space.

Once used as an auto repair shop, this modern gastro pub has undergone a colossal renovation, keeping the original facade, but completely stripping back the inside to create the incredible space it is today. The talented chefs at True South offer a modern Argentinean menu, served in the newly converted setting.

There is a public carpark out the back of True South. This can be accessed via Beach Road (you turn down the small lane next to the bike shop) or Ebden Ave (you turn off Balcombe Road). Great place for a drink but the food has taken a very large step backwards and was underwhelming compared to the previous times

My wife and I chose True South for our wedding anniversary dinner, we expected good things based on our last experience, this time not so much. The main course calamari was dry and over cooked and had no flavour, all we could taste was oil, the salad it came with had little or no dressing, the patatas bravas was not served with aioli ( we had to request this) and was also dry and over cooked. the espresso martini was not filled ( basically half full) and the porterhouse while tasty did have an unacceptable amount of gristle, not good. All in all we were disappointed with our meal and to top it off whilst paying our bill staff did not even ask if we enjoyed our meal :( we wont be back.

Service was good. Pretty noisy place. Food was a disappointment. Ordered medium rare steak, got an overcooked well done instead, meat wasn’t good quality. Ordered empanadas and the red salsa was from a can, and tasted pretty conventional. Ceviche had a nice presentation but was not very tasty. Crema Catalana was ok. Will not go back.

Food was ok, however the service was really bad. A lot of waiting around, asked for a 2nd beer ( a pot not a pint ) but still brought a pint, didn't say much as they took ages to bring this second beer, and the people sitting next two us got actually 2 rounds of cocktails while we waited for the beer, we could even see the beer sitting in the bar for ages. Anyway, ordered the mains which was rack of lamb which was probably the most expensive main, together with chips, the chips probably took 10 min to get to the table, and then the lamb another 10 min after that when this was supposed to be server together. Waiting staff didn’t bother to check on us. At the end we were so disappointed with the service we didn’t even enjoy the last dish, still asked for a takeaway container to take home the remainder of the lamb which was more than half, and again and eternity to wait for this, so much we couldn’t be bother anymore we just paid and left without even getting the container. I was so disappointed with the lack of service an attention, specially as I put in my booked that this was a special occasion for our anniversary, hope the management look in to this so they can better their service.

We had an early dinner booking so wasn’t super busy with diners. Lots of people enjoying a few bevies. Atmosphere was good & food was very good. Couldn’t fault the service at all

Fabulous food and drinks in a lively open setting. The Chef's Taste was fantastic and would recommend it for a group to share. Very good value for money - excellent quality and plenty of options. Highly recommend

Fair range of food that was extremely well done. Not too busy (Sunday lunch) so nice and quiet. Dim lighting lends to a cosy atmosphere. Staff were very good and not too intrusive
