Honest, homely and simple traditional Asian cooking

Located at Notting Hill Gate, ULI offers a fresh, honest approach to Asian cuisine. Natural limed oak, soft tones of blue and contemporary art give the restaurant a clean and informal look, highlighted by a hanging garden of pendant lights. Our menu encompasses carefully selected dishes from Asia, all prepared using traditional Chinese, Thai, Malay and Singaporean disciplines. We believe that Asian food should be clean, fresh and healthy, and that each dish should always be made from scratch.

Originally established on the All Saints Road in 1997, ULI became a firm favourite among locals and critics alike. At its new home ULI serves lunch and dinner all week as well as an extensive range of snacks, cocktails and beverages.

Food was absolutely amazing! Really good and would definitely come back! Very quiet inside, we sat in the terrace area and it was very toasty with heaters. The staff was nice and the food arrived very quick!

We needed a place to have dinner before NYE, and we saw several good reviews about ULI. The staff was very friendly since we got there, and the food was great too. We ordered dumplings, spicy noodles and sweet and sour chicken, and enjoyed them all. We finished our meal with the lemon cheesecake which was spectacular.

We SO wanted to enjoy this meal as much as we enjoyed the festively lit ambience, but two of our four entrees fell far short, I’m afraid, and the other two were okay, but not exceptional. The shumai appetizers were generously-sized and flavorful, but the main course chili shrimp came in a viscous sauce of an unfortunately gloppy nature, and the crispy shredded beef seemed to be all crunchy batter with no hint of meat detectable inside it. This made the high-for-what-we-received price point particularly hard to swallow, so to speak. The chocolate coolant dessert we shared went down well, so we at least finished on a sweet note and the staff were lovely, but in the end, Uli’s particular style of Asian cuisine just wasn’t a good match for our group’s collective taste buds.

Lovely local restaurant with fantastic food and wonderful staff. I go with friends occasionally but this time with elderly parents and it was every bit as good. Light and bright, good atmosphere but not noisy!
