Serving inventive Japanese cuisine using the freshest seafood from Tokyo’s famed Tsukiji market and local New England fishermen, and borrowing influence from the streets of Tokyo, Shanghai, Singapore, Bangkok and Bangladesh, Uni is the evolution of Ken Oringer’s intimate sashimi bar of the same name, which expanded into the former Clio space in 2016. UNI is currently helmed by Executive Chef David Bazirgan.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Ken Oringer & David Bazirgan

From the OpenTable editors: Open since 2002, Back Bay’s Uni still turns out some of the city’s best seafood, much of it sourced from Tokyo’s famed Tsukiji market. Acclaimed chef Ken Oringer’s menu stars decadent dishes like the uni spoon—uni paired with caviar and a quail egg—in a luxe and lively space inside the Eliot Hotel that makes every meal feel like a special occasion.

Place I have been wanting to try. Unfortunately did not meet my expectations. Still worth a try for those curious.

We had stayed away for a number of years due to high noise level, but returned after hearing from friends recently that they had a good experience, so we wanted to give Uni another try. Unfortunately, the sushi wasn't well executed, multiple items sat too long before they were served, nori was soggy, 'signature' waygu dumplings were overcooked. Not what you expect, especially for the prices charged.

I would return for the spicy tuna and Foie Gras tomorrow! Customer service was excellent, food was gorgeous, fresh and the complexity of the menu never felt overshadowed by the spectacular taste! We will be back!

My wife and I enjoyed an early dinner before a concert. The sushi was very good and nice other choices for my wife who likes but doesn't love sushi.

The fish was very fresh, ambiance beautiful and service excellent. However, if you were seeking a true sushi experience it was not. They could serve the fish traditional without the paired flavors (e.g. subtle chocolate sauce with cranberry on your nigiri) but you’re paying for the menu design. The miso soup was also quite good - lots of umami, not overly salty. The desserts were phenomenal with the pear sorbet on olive cake and the coconut rice pudding redefines rice pudding. But for the price and main sushi experience it was very disappointing.

Still one of my all time favorite restaurants! Very creative takes on traditional Japanese with some fusion of other flavors and techniques. The people are the best part! Super friendly and great service. I always bring my out-of-State friends here.

I celebrated my birthday at this restaurant and overall had a great time. The service was great, the food was amazing, drinks were amazing, however the noise was very loud. The set up of tables was very crowded and there was a work party next to us but kept walking between our table and bumping my husband constantly. Besides those issues, it was a good restaurant!
