Serving inventive Japanese cuisine using the freshest seafood from Tokyo’s famed Tsukiji market and local New England fishermen, and borrowing influence from the streets of Tokyo, Shanghai, Singapore, Bangkok and Bangladesh, Uni is the evolution of Ken Oringer’s intimate sashimi bar of the same name, which expanded into the former Clio space in 2016. UNI is currently helmed by Executive Chef David Bazirgan.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Ken Oringer & David Bazirgan

From the OpenTable editors: Open since 2002, Back Bay’s Uni still turns out some of the city’s best seafood, much of it sourced from Tokyo’s famed Tsukiji market. Acclaimed chef Ken Oringer’s menu stars decadent dishes like the uni spoon—uni paired with caviar and a quail egg—in a luxe and lively space inside the Eliot Hotel that makes every meal feel like a special occasion.

Whoa. This was... not good. Service was aces, the ambiance left a ton to be desired, but the sushi? Bad. Flat out bad. The mackerel was legit almost as crunchy as the fried chicken bao bun; the salmon was dry. The toro belly was fine, but at that price? hahahahahahah, no. Seriously: Six pieces of negihama in a roll, at $5 a bite. It'd have been more pleasant just, literally, eating the cash. "You're paying for the experience," you might say. Wait staff in sweatshirts, my table legit knocking against the strangers next to us, in a noise cone that rivals the food court at H Mart. They should have paid -me-. If it sounds like I'm being extraordinarily cruel, go see for yourself. But there's plenty around Back Bay to hook you up when you walk out laughing.

The food was good, but, honestly, the prices are extreme for the quantity you get is very little.

Tiny expensive plates - tables packed in to where you’re eating with the people next to you. It was some of the best sushi I’d ever had though

Haven’t been in a while roughly a year used to come all the time and used to be way better service but highly disappointed in service for a 400$ meal. Foods great and atmosphere but… Food came out slow and separate dishes constantly didn’t have 4 items I ordered had to re order and wait longer. I mean just disappointed Took over 2 hours and was terrible service. Paid in cash and still had to wait for the waiter to be done talking to come get the check another employee grabbed him Im highly recommending to others and my followers to not come here.

Table location was terrible. Right next to constant traffic in and out of hotel door to the restroom. Service went from bad to worse. Cocktails took forever. Food took even longer. By end of the evening we had to tell them to not bring the last two dishes that we had waited over 40 mins for. They were clearly understaffed and overwhelmed. A very disappointing evening at Uni.
