Our magical conservatory restaurant is set amid Updown’s rambling grounds. Dine under the grape vines surrounded by beautiful 17th century brick and watch the chefs in the open kitchen tending to the wood fired grill and original farm house bread oven. The restaurant has been completely transformed by owners Ruth and Oli to be heated and fully enclosed and is open year round.

Menus will be small, hyper seasonal and use the best of local and European produce and change on regular basis to reflect what’s best. Everything is cooked over wood in the open kitchen. There is a short list of exciting wines of limited availability, local beers and seasonal cocktails.

On Wednesday nights in place of our à la carte we cook a Steak Night menu , priced at £30 per person for 3 courses. On Sunday nights the restaurant is closed but we serve a light supper for hotel guests in the Farmhouse.

    Updown has several beautiful spaces in which to host your private event. We have a beautiful conservatory Private Dining Room overlooking the farmhouse lawn. It is perfect for groups of 4 to 14 for a seated meal, or up to 20 for a drinks party. The main restaurant can accommodate up to 50 sitting or 150 standing and is ideal for a larger party.

    On Saturday 26th April, the fiery island flavours of Soho’s Paradise and Dom Fernando will take over the kitchens of Updown. With a menu inspired by his Sri Lankan heritage, Dom’s menu will celebrate the best of British and Sri Lankan produce for a contemporary twist on Sinhalese cuisine. The menu to be confirm All dining is for communal tables and everyone will be served together, with guests invited to sit from 7pm and dinner served from 7.30pm. Tickets are £65 per person including a welcome drink.

    Steak Night was a Great Night for us. And, as usual, the service was friendly and fast, without being at all rushed. The simple menu worked.

    I took my mum as a treat for her birthday and we couldn’t have asked for a better dining experience. The food and atmosphere were gorgeous and the staff were so attentive. We didn’t feel at all rushed between courses and felt completely relaxed. We had the Sunday lunch set menu and everything was delicious. Also great value for money given the quality of the food. Will definitely be going back soon!

    We arrived on time, had a very warm welcome, our coats were taken care of and we were shown to a lovely table, which had been set with a white table cloth, a white starched napkin, fresh flowers and a candle - a great start to an evening out. Our server was great at looking after us, she was engaging in short and friendly conversation, she was very much on the ball at checking in that we had everything we wanted and making sure that we were happy with each course. We had ordered the seafood and fish papardelle starter, which was very tasty but it had a lot of cheese on it that had not been mentioned at all in the menu description. We would have preferred to know that. As a main course, we had ordered Steamed Turbot with Citrus Fruits, Olive Oil and White Asparagus, it was a delicious, well-balanced and original combination. The other main course was a Grilled Pork Chop with Chick Peas, Aioli & Turnip Tops, which was a very unusual dish but very much enjoyed for its rich flavour combinations and the most beautifully grilled pork, which was delicious and tender, as well as attractive on the plate. For dessert, we had opted for the Sherry Trifle with Rhubarb and the Vanilla Pannacotta with Blood Orange & Grappa. The pannacotta was one of the best I have ever had for flavour. The trifle could have benefited from more rhubarb. The Chardonnay (Campo Fiorito) served with the pork chop was a great choice, perfectly chilled. The music played might not be to everybody’s taste for a dining experience. Overall, the service was excellent, the food was delicious, we had a very enjoyable evening and will book again. Thanks to the whole team.

    A wonderful experience, very friendly, lovely food albeit the menu is quite small so some may feel choice is limited. Excellent wine and cocktails and fabulous service. I’d love to return and stay in their beautiful looking accommodation. Highly recommend

    Delicous food presented superbly. Staff very good. The restaurant was extremely smoky and we all had sore eyes and were coughing which did make our experience a little tainted especially as when we got home our clothes smelt of cooking.

    We had the winter set menu and it was amazing. I would also reccomend the cocktails. I had the blood orange negroni and the lemon leaf martini and it was one of the best Martinis I have ever had.
