Our magical conservatory restaurant is set amid Updown’s rambling grounds. Dine under the grape vines surrounded by beautiful 17th century brick and watch the chefs in the open kitchen tending to the wood fired grill and original farm house bread oven. The restaurant has been completely transformed by owners Ruth and Oli to be heated and fully enclosed and is open year round.

Menus will be small, hyper seasonal and use the best of local and European produce and change on regular basis to reflect what’s best. Everything is cooked over wood in the open kitchen. There is a short list of exciting wines of limited availability, local beers and seasonal cocktails.

On Wednesday nights in place of our à la carte we cook a Steak Night menu , priced at £30 per person for 3 courses. On Sunday nights the restaurant is closed but we serve a light supper for hotel guests in the Farmhouse.

    Updown has several beautiful spaces in which to host your private event. We have a beautiful conservatory Private Dining Room overlooking the farmhouse lawn. It is perfect for groups of 4 to 14 for a seated meal, or up to 20 for a drinks party. The main restaurant can accommodate up to 50 sitting or 150 standing and is ideal for a larger party.

Serving up seasonally inspired dishes using local Kent produce, Max has written a menu that brings bold flavours and rustic charm.     As tempting as it is to save our pennies for a Christmas blow out, the freezing temperatures makes us want one thing: a treat. And in our minds, the only treat we want mid-Winter is to be cooked for, cared for and sent home a little bit happier than when we left the house. So, we're offering a £40 set menu every Thursday dinner, Friday dinner and Saturday lunch, every week 'til the end of January. We can always offer a vegan or vegetarian option if you let us know when you book. Sample menu: Mangalitza Pork Rillettes, Dill & Mustard Pickles & Sourdough Toast Bavette Steak with Wild Mushrooms, Tarragon & Gratin Dauphonois Choux Bun with Salted Caramel Ice Cream & Chocolate Sauce

    Our evening at Updown was an absolute delight. The location is amazing, staff are very professional and friendly and the food is absolutely amazing

    Have been wanting to try Updown for a long time. It was worth the wait. Food and wine excellent. Relaxed atmosphere. Would recommend.

    Always a lovely experience at Uodown. The food is consistently amazing . Had the lobster which was perfect . Atmosphere, location and service fantastic . I'll be back again very soon

    The actual barn and ambience is very pleasant. The food however is very expensive for what it is and the options are very limited. We didnt want to pay £95 for steak pp and no one wanted fish stew so it was duck (which I was told was nice) but not a veg in sight. One of our party doesnt eat meat so opted for the cabbage. The dish contained a piece of charred cabbage, some lentils, bit of spinach and some beetroot which had been soaked in far too much vinegar for the dish. This cost £26 which is ridiculous and it was not enjoyable. The duck pate was bland apparently and came with nothing else All the food was just put on very shallow plates with not much finesse. None of us would eat there again as we did not consider it was value for money.

    Absolutely loved this restaurant. Stunning interiors and beautiful food. Can’t wait to go back. Perfect spot for a date or special occasion long lunch.

    Our first time for Sunday lunch and we thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed, friendly atmosphere and the delicious food. The roast lamb is a Sunday staple but the pork starter was delicious and the rice pudding took me back to my childhood. The magician who circulated was terrific. I’d normally say this was not my thing but he was highly engaging and left us all speechless with his tricks. A lovely way to celebrate two joint wedding anniversaries.
