Venable, the name of Carrboro from 1912-1913, takes inspiration from the rich culinary offerings of our area. A quiet lunch hour. Service was slow but pleasant. The fish taco was nothing special and served with a huge portion of fries. Tacos and fries? The Korean soup was good.

Rude front staff. We were stuck in traffic trying to find our way quicker to restaurant. They called at 15 min past our res and asked if we still wanted our reservation then thanked me for letting them know? Let my wife out to hurry to the table. They tried to seat her at the bar in someone else’s seat with menus then left her there. Cold shouldered us when I came in from the parking lot and my wife was walking back to the front after being abandoned at the bar. Bizarre. We were 16 min late. Been going here for years. Not sure we’re going back.

We only had 2 in our party. Our waiter was very nice & did a good job with everything; however my trout couldn’t be seen when served. It was covered completely with rice & green beans. I had to ask if it was even there? Not usually the plating for an entree listed as Trout accompanied by rice, green beans & almonds! Maybe another day & entree?

Server was very pleasant and knowledgable about menu. Mix up with bread before main. Main course, the Trout, was 1) not really hot when it arrived 2) not much taste 3) rice was sticky and not fluffy at all. Dessert special, the Pistachio Cheesecake, was fine.

Venable is one of our 'go-to' restaurants in Carrboro. Service is always helpful and polite, meals are well prepared, and specials are often interesting. The wine list has something for everyone and the manager often has recommendations.
