The Waggon at Hale is an independent family run traditional country pub situated on Capstone Road, Chatham... Emma & her team are here to offer you a warm and friendly welcome whether you are looking for somewhere to have a good old pint of real ale or a glass of wine or looking to dine on our freshly prepared food served all day everyday.
We also have a large beer garden where you can soak up the sun while your children play in safety in the children's play area or enjoy our small animal farm which includes pigs, a goat, chickens, rabbits and guniea pigs as well as Onions the pub dog.

We have a small car park to the front of the building with a large car park to the rear of the building which is locked after closing for extra security.
Public transit
Nearest train stations are Chatham or Gillingham. Please be advised that both are a 30 minute walk, a taxi may be preferable. Local Arriva bus from Chatham to Hempstead stops right outside the pub - ask the Waggon at Hale stop.

Really enjoyed our meal value for money, children loved the play area and the animals.

Out with friends for an evening meal ,food was good and a good size portion . Will be going back again

Amazing food, much better than a standard pub. Animals and outdoor play offered a little extra something for kids. We didn't understand why it was so quiet on a Saturday lunchtime! Only negative was that there is no baby change facility in the men's toilets.

Unfortunately our waitress forgot to come to our table for our drinks order although she did apologise - our two dessert choices / rasp sorbet, lemon sorbet were not available. Our bill was issued and we had to point out that our drinks were not included in the total !!!! Perhaps we shouldn't have been so honest. It was a pleasant evening (an anniversary) but there were some minor unnecessary issues as mentioned above

There were only one other couple in restaurant, and we only ordered two main courses, but we still had to wait an hour for the food. No explanation was given for delay.

Superb food and excellent service spoilt only by the shouting and swearing from customers in the bar a few feet away. I was embarrassed for my wife who had to be constantly bombarded by a string of f-words throughout the meal. I realise that this is probably beyond your control but the close proximity of the bar to the restaurant with no intervening doorway suggests that this is probably a regular occurrence and not something I could recommend to friends. I would however reiterate that the food and the service was excellent. Kind Regards. Ronald Brown.

Very busy day parking was a nightmare could be a put off to some, dumped at a table after booking by th very loud coffee machine. Place looked like it needed some tlc food was ok chips very greasy yet other tables had nice chips no people skills for the waitress and she needed a longer skirt not the right length for working where she does and not appropriate being a family pub. Would not go back and would not recommend

Nice local find. Good food and family friendly. Has a great garden with a range of animals to keep the kids entertained. Food was very tasty and well priced.

Lovely food and very reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend the Sunday roast. Staff very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Will definitely be going back 😊
