Overlooking the confluence of Spray and Bow Rivers, The Waldhaus. our "House in the Forest" is a retreat for those seeking solace from Banff's bustle. What began as the Clubhouse for the renowned Stanley Thompson Golf Course has transformed into a sanctuary of Mountain gastronomy. In the dining room above, rich timber and a majestic hearth narrate the epic tales of bygone explorations. Meanwhile, the Bierhalle below is where history and merriment collide, offering a spirited space for companionship, games, and the shared joy of storied adventures.

Please note:
- The Waldhaus is designated as a historical building and such has stairs to access all areas.
- The Bierhalle and Billardhalle only take limited reservations, otherwise operating on a first-come, first-served basis
- Regrettably the Waldhaus does not take reservations for its patio due to the unpredictability of mountain weather however, we will do our best to accommodate patio requests on a per case basis.

Enter through the Hotel's main doors proceeding down the hall past the Fairmont Spa and out the doors to your right. Continue down the pathway to the stairs on your left which will take you down to the Waldhaus.Bus Fare is $2.00 per person.

    Had an amazing dinner. We started with great pretzel appetizer - the beer cheese was fabulous. For entrees we had the pork sandwich and bratwursts. Both were delicious. For dessert we had the chocolate fondue which had fresh fruit, cinnamon cookies and baked goods, and the homemade marshmallows! The staff was great and very welcoming. Our waiter was very attentive and helped us pick our meals. We were in a great secluded spot that had a great ambiance. The quiet music selection was very nice. I highly recommend you dine here and look forward to coming back!

    We stay at Banff Springs at least twice a year, and always go to the Waldhaus every time. The atmosphere is great, the staff is amazing (Mark, Julie, et al) friendly, helpful and a lot of fun. Cannot recommend this experience enough.

    I had a lovely time sitting at the bar in the pub. It was quiet on a Friday night. The food was good. I really enjoyed the veggie tartine. The vibes were very chill, kind of moody. If you’re staying at the hotel and want a no-frills (but delicious) dinner, consider the pub.

    The Waldhaus Restaurant was average, at best. It feels like a theme park experience that needs to be refreshed. The main dining room is pretty, but we were seated in the enclosed porch area, which no doubt has amazing daytime views, but we visited at night and the ambiance was weird. Very harsh lighting. Food wise, we ordered the three course dinner and the cheese fondue was good. I think it would have been nice to have something to to dip other than stale bread and apples. The pork schnitzel was decent, and the chocolate fondue was tasty, but not elevated at all. Nothing made the experience feel special. This restaurant lacks the Fairmont’s signature attention to detail and seems due for a reboot.

    The food was excellent. Had the schnitzel and enjoyed it. For dessert had the apple strudel which was a sweet light finish to the dinner. Overall enjoyed the dinner. Note you have to walk up to the restaurant ( road and stairs which was adventurous in the snow and cold for my date in high heels).

    Not our first time at the restauarant. I love green European Alpine Atmoshere, but I will not likely choose this restaurant again. We had the cheese fondue. It was prepared fine, but it lacked in taste. I’m guessing the cheese blend was light on gruyere. My girlfriend had the split pea soup. It was a bit bland as well, but It came out Luke warm. We sent it back and it came back about 10 minutes later. It was a new serving and hot. I had the schnitzel. It too lacked flavour, vastly undersalted. We requested salt and pepper from the server and the host but it took about 10 minutes, at which point my food too was cold. It’s unfortunate because I really looked forward to sharing the experience with my girlfriend!

    We had been there once before but only for drinks in the bar. The staff was wonderful and the food was amazing. Get the fondue!
