Chef Michael Scelfo of Alden & Harlow welcomes Waypoint, his second Cambridge restaurant. Located at the gateway of Harvard Square at 1030 Massachusetts Avenue, “waypoint” often means a plot point on a map. For Chef Scelfo, it signals a natural next step along his culinary journey. From live-fire pizza to raw bar and caviar service, to an expansive absinthe list, the menu at Waypoint reflects his forward-thinking approach to coastally-inspired fare combining approachable ideas and ingredients with elements that are unexpected.

The hostess was rude. We arrived at 4:50 for a 5pm reservation. The door was unlocked. And she said “We open at 5 so come back in 10 minutes.” We came back at 5:03 and 6 tables were sat. Was really odd.

We dined at Waypoint for restaurant week and had an excellent experience. The food was fresh, flavorful, and had subtle uniqueness! Restaurant week is a great deal, and was a great way to try a new spot to us. Restaurant week or not, we will definitely return!

Remains my favorite restaurant in Cambridge. We selected an array of smaller and larger plates, the staff coursed them out perfectly. New for us was the charred broccolini which was a joy from the moment the smells hit our table. Great cocktails, beer, and wine selections as well.

Food quality has fallen off a lot since pre-COVID. Used to be one of our favorite restaurants! Now quite unremarkable, especially at the price point. The fried Brussels sprouts were delicious, but the smoked whitefish pizza and cast iron salmon were both pretty meh, unfortunately.

This place needs new management. It can't decide what it wants to be. First they say "this is family style" but then they have pasta dishes without extra plates. This is NOT a family style place -it's a regular restaurant. Stupid and confusing. Next, the menu is a jumble of pizzas and pastas and entrees and it's very hard to distinguish what's what. Again, very confusing. If you want a glass of the "house red" or "house white" they look at you like your're an alien. Then "ok a chardonnay". They don't have chardonnay. They have 2-3 choices of overpriced $15-20 glasses of wine. terrible setup. Next, the waiters are oddly aggressive- I've had this happen multiple times where they jump in to take my plate (the place isn't full, no one's waiting for a table) when I literally have the fork in my hand and food on the plate. Then at the very end, they disappear and don't bring your check. The food itself is OK - not great, but OK. The service, is awful - mostly due to poor training. I lay this at the feet of management.

Good ambiance and great service, our waiter was very attentive. We ordered fish and chips - very good. The steak frites were excessively salty. It's a decent option in the Harvard Square area.

Wait 30mins until the table is ready. They clearly don’t have a functioning reserve system for clients

The food was wonderful, waitress and bartender very attentive as well as front of house. Our table was next to the open kitchen and we enjoyed that as well. Only criticism is that the online menu needs to match the daily menu.

Oysters during happy hour are $3.50/ piece. Would've been $1/ piece if you sit at the bar, but all seats at the bar were occupied the whole two hours we were there. Not happy.
