   What a gem! This restaurant not only ticked every box but wrapped it up with a big, friendly bow. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel like old friends—think warm smiles and genuine chats that are rare these days. The food? Outstanding! Each dish was a little masterpiece, bursting with flavour, and the portions were generous enough to make even the hungriest diners happy. The best part? The bill was the nicest surprise of all. I’d almost brought out my calculator, expecting a hefty price tag, but this place gives you gourmet quality without the scary maths. Great food, fabulous value, and a team who clearly love what they do—what more could you ask for?

   Wow Tracy, thank you so much for this review. I have to say as the Operations Director you actually bought a little tear to my eye. The hospitality industry is tougher than I have ever known it and we are always pushing and striving to be the best we can be but it is 100% reliant on the people you have around you and their passion to deliver - your review pushes us on, knowing that we are achieving our goals.    Beautiful food, excellent service, friendly staff. Loved that we weren't rushed away from our table even though we did stay longer than expected

   Good venue , plenty of parking , waited 15 minutes , no one came to take orders had to order food and drink at the bar. Staff were lovely , guessing they were short staffed. Food arrived only a small amount of cauliflower cheese to serve amongst three , short of one Yorkshire pudding , bit mean on the carrots .. Overall the food was very good. Deserts were on the expensive side , as was the coffee. 3 adults and two kids (4,10) No starters , 4, mains , 2 deserts , drinks plus 2 coffees, and one eating off the kids menu £130.

   Hi Michael, Thank you for your review. Sorry for your wait and yes sadly we did have some sickness. Thanks for your patience with this. I am pleased you enjoyed your food with us. Our desserts are made from scratch, indeed all of our food, as we do not buy these in the cost does reflects this. We have always felt that this is more important to us than buying in and charging less. They start from £7 up to £9. I agree with the price of food increasing it has put the cost of dining out up but I would say that for like for like pubs we are in line and in some cases cheaper. I've eaten out 3 times with my partner and had a starter, a main, no dessert, 1 wine and 1 coffee the bill was over £100 in each case!    Met with friends, it was their first time at the Lion and they loved it, cosy, great food, we all had the roast, Turkey, Beef, Pork and plenty of gravy too👍🏻👍🏻 lovely

   We visited on a very quiet Saturday afternoon so the pub lacked atmosphere. The steak ciabatta was good but the crispy chicken salad very poor. When the dish arrived it was merely chicken nuggets on a bed of leaves with chopped dried apricots and fig pieces. There was no beetroot and no walnuts as described on the menu. When questioned the waitress returned to the kitchen and after some time appeared with a dessert bowl with some cold chopped beetroot and lots of dry walnut pieces. The error was apparently due to an apprentice chef in the kitchen. No deduction was made on the bill. A fairly dire experience but difficult to complain further when you are dining with family

   Food was delicious…the roast turkey dinner was superb. Sadly thought the service was slow at times. The servers were very friendly and helpful but seemed a bit disorganised eg cleared up the table next to us , saw we had finished yet didn’t come back to clear our plates away. Had to ask for someone to take our dessert order having waited quite a while. Would still recommend the White Lion though.

   Dear Elspeth, Thank you for taking the time to review and indeed for our 4 stars. We are so pleased you enjoyed the food, especially the turkey! Apologies the service was a bit slow. I have to say we were taken a little off guard on Sunday as we went from reserved seats of 64 to serving 147 on the day. This is in no way an excuse but an explanation as to why it felt a little disorganised. I know the team were running all day and no-one stopped for any breaks trying to ensure our customers were all looked after and were very much their priority - that said we are sorry you had to chase for your desserts to be taken. I will pass this onto the team to ensure we stay on top. We are delighted that overall you had a good visit with us and we hope to see you back soon. Regards Sian
