About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Neighbourhood gem
  • Charming
William’s is a multi-award-winning seafood restaurant, fishmonger, delicatessen and caterer in the heart of Nailsworth, Gloucestershire.

A veritable Cotswolds institution for fifty years, William’s has recently benefitted from a full-scale refurbishment of both the restaurant and shop area in January 2020.

Alongside a 64-cover new restaurant sits a new fish counter displaying an outstanding range of fresh seafood, delivered daily from Scotland and the South West coastline. The adjacent delicatessen offers a large selection of chef-prepared meals, cheeses, charcuterie and terrines as well as fresh fruit and vegetables.

We are proud to have been voted one of Matthew Fort’s ‘Five Favourite Places to Shop’ and one of Rick Stein’s ‘Food Heroes’.

Stunning crab soup and generally a great lunch. Lovely staff and ambience. The only criticism was that my wife had the cheese board and when you see the amazing selection of cheeses in the shop, that wasn't really reflected there. Everything else was brilliant and I would recommend it to all; of my friends.

Excellent choice of seafood, beautifully cooked and prepared, in a warm and friendly environment. Both indoor and outdoor tables are comfortable and pleasantly spaced. I have no reservation in recommending Williams as one of the finest restaurants in the region.

We were very well looked after. Lovely food. Nibbles of olives and taramasalata as well as the brill with scallop mousse and the dark chocolate and amaretto dessert were the stand out dishes by far.

I haven't been to William's Kitchen for lunch or dinner for a long time; from now on, this will be a haunt of mine! It was a belated Mother's Day lunch for my mum and my stepmum (my dad weaselled in too!) and we all had a sensational time. The ambience of the place is so delightful, with a wonderful wet fish counter when you first come in, making it somehow seem more authentic. Me and my dad had the fish soup, which was so unctuous and so savoury it was almost unholy. My Mum had the arancini which looked very tasty (I could have tried a bit, but I didn't want to infect her as I've got a stinking cold) and my stemum had the spicy crab soup. We were very happy with our starters - now for the mains! I had the sensational sesame-crusted sashimi-grade tuna steak, which was superbly cooked (blushing inside) ona Nicoise salad with a crispy hen's egg atop this concoction. It looked almost as good as it tasted! Beautiful plate of food. My Mum and Dad had stone bass with dauphinoise and parsnip puree and apparently it was very tasty indeed. My Stepmum had another starter which was sliced gravadlax with loads of amazing trimmings. She loves this place and comes here loads - no complaints at all! For dessert I had the apple tart tatin which delicious and very creamy ice cream. Mum and my stepmum had it too. Dad had the panna cotta which was very impressive! And he loved it too. Will defo come back soon - everything was really out of this world! And wonderful service from a delightdul friendly romanian woman! Top marks everyone!
