The Winding Stair Bookshop & Café became a famous Dublin landmark in the 1970s and 1980s. Named after the Yeats poem and in honour of its winding staircase, it is overlooking the river Liffey, with an iconic view of the Ha'penny bridge. As a popular meeting place for writers, musicians and artists, it was a well known hub for debate and creativity with many poems written, novels penned and movies shot within its walls. In 2006, Elaine Murphy brought this much-loved spot back to life as a restaurant, championing seasonal, Irish produce. The bookshop, located on the ground floor, was retained, as were many of the old bookshelves, photos and memories. The room retains its timeless charm with stripped wood tables and floors, and Bentwood café chairs.The view remains as quintessentially Dublin as ever.
The food is good, old-fashioned home cooking, with produce sourced from artisans within the island. Drink sare local and international craft beers & wines from stellar producers.

Straight forward menu, not pretentious and lovely ambience. We had the charcuterie board, and strip loin steaks, these were cooked to perfection! Would definitely recommend.

In town on vacation and had dinner here. Tad confusing getting in but once you are there things are wonderful. Great service and 👍 recommendations on bottle.of wine. Dinner was excellent had the haddock and the pork! Great meal!

We loved the food and our table in the upper floor with a window view. The only thing to note is the service, not bad but just a bit abrupt. It wouldn't make much different in the overall experience but something we thought could be improved.

Wonderful venue, super service, excellent food. We had a marvellous lunch. Will be back. Highly recommend. Well done.

The vegetarian main course (aubergine with creamy tomato lentils and chickpeas) was absolutely delicious, and we also enjoyed the stake very much! The apple crumble was a great finish to my meal. The atmosphere is lovely, and it's in a central location. Unfortunately, they forgot our salad order, and when we asked them if they are bringing it, they said yes, but ended up bringing steamed greens instead. Those also tasted good, but we would have enjoyed the salad more. Nevertheless, the staff was otherwise very polite, and we had a wonderful evening overall.

Very unusual small restaurant. No frills just good food and service. Would definately recommend you visit.
