We had been before and wanted to try again for a nice dinner for our anniversary. We had a very pleasant meal. Filet mignon, which was on special (with trice baked potato and veg and the trout. We also had devilled eggs as appetizer. All the food was excellent. Also a very nice glass of red wine. Although some might think the prices a little high, we thought it was an up-market menu and so the value was actually fine for us (and for the occasion). Also the servings were large and we actually took some home to have another meal the next day! (I realize there are some with large appetites how could force it all down in a single serving - but it was fine for us to not need to do that). Since it was shoulder season the place was not busy, and that helped us get truly great service. The one minor surprise was to see a 6% service fee show up on the bill, and we were of course expected to tip on top. I understand some restaurants are doing this now. But it does not really sit well to have that as a surprise when the bill comes. I decided not to make anything of it. I did notice later when searching reviews on line that many people have been taking issue with this and were not happy. I would suggest to the owners/manager that this is a policy that is giving negative reviews. Probably best to just build that 6% into the prices if there is a need to pay kitchen staff more. It seems to create unnecessary negativity, which detracts from what would otherwise be a great experience.
