Food was terrific, both Yum Cha and al a carte. We were 8 very noisy and happy people which didn't phase the staff - very friendly and helpful. Had to ask a few times for sauces and napkins but overall pretty good. Weren't offered moist towelettes despite ordering foods that required it. Vast improvement on the previous operators. Worth a try.

service was very poor. we would continually have to chase a waiter to order a drink or additional food. requested cutlery on 3 occasions...still no delivery our friends had to use the cutlery that was supposed to be used to serve food. spring rolls were generic (tasted like generic supermarket)....beef was tasty but not great quality wouldnt consider going back....was a fine experience but the food and service were sub-par

They need to be clear on pricing, we ordered a large signature fried rice. The menu only has 2 prices on it. One for members and another for non members. The price on the menu is for the regular fried rice which $26.80. If you order a large fried rice it’s $52.80!! We ordered 2 large fried rice. That’s over $100 for rice. Absolute madness.

FAQs

Yes, Xing Yan can be a lovely choice for date night. Guests praise the delicious Cantonese dishes, comfortable atmosphere and attentive service, and many come for special occasions like anniversaries. For a quieter, more intimate experience choose a weekday dinner or an early seating; weekend nights and yum cha sessions are livelier. Consider booking ahead to secure a preferred table and avoid kitchen-edge seating some guests found less private.

Portions at Xing Yan are generally generous, guests frequently describe servings as hearty and shareable, especially for a family-style Cantonese meal. Yum cha dishes and mains tend to be filling; banquets can be plentiful but one guest noted a 9-person banquet felt sized for fewer people. If you’re ordering large-format items (like the large signature fried rice) check pricing and portion notes so expectations are clear.

Xing Yan is best-known for its Cantonese favourites: guests frequently praise yum cha/dim sum and Peking duck, while the menu’s Signature Fried Rice and seafood dishes also get strong mentions. Yum cha is specifically called out as scrumptious by many guests, and Peking duck appears on the menu as a highlighted two-course item, a popular choice for celebrations.

Family-friendly, yes. Guests often dine with families, kids and groups, and many Celebrate special occasions here. Seating is described as comfortable, though yum cha can be busy and noisy. Accessibility specifics (ramps, wheelchair-accessible tables) aren’t documented in the available information, so call ahead to confirm needs or request a quieter table for children.

For a quieter experience, go during weekday lunch or an early weekday dinner, guests note these times are calmer. Weekends, yum cha sessions and special days (Mother’s Day, Saturday nights) are busy and lively, so book ahead if you want a specific table or a more relaxed meal. Expect higher noise and possible waits during peak yum cha times.

Xing Yan offers a lively Cantonese casual-dining atmosphere. Guests describe it as comfortable and welcoming, with prompt and friendly staff, but it can get noisy during yum cha (trolleys on tiled floors) and busy weekend evenings. Overall the vibe suits family meals, celebratory dinners and weekend yum cha sessions; choose quieter times for an intimate meal.

Business casual is the recommended dress code. The setting is casual dining with a polished Cantonese presentation, so smart-casual attire is appropriate for most visits and special occasions.

Yes, the menu includes vegetarian choices such as Vegetarian fried rice and several vegetable and tofu dishes (stir-fried seasonal vegetables, tofu options). Gluten-free and other allergy-friendly options aren’t explicitly listed, so contact the restaurant ahead of your visit to confirm safe choices and ingredient details.

Yes, families often dine here and guests bring children for birthdays and family meals. There isn’t a dedicated kids’ menu mentioned, and yum cha service can be slower at busy times (some guests noted kids getting hungry while waiting), so consider earlier seating or checking timing if you have young children.

Busiest: weekend nights, Saturday yum cha sessions and special days like Mother’s Day, guests frequently mention sold-out dishes and lively floors. Quietest: weekday lunches and early weekday dinners tend to be calmer and better for a relaxed meal. Booking is advised for busy periods.

Weekdays, especially a weekday lunch or an early weekday dinner, are the best days for a calmer, more relaxed experience. Weekends and yum cha services draw crowds, so choose a weekday if you prefer quieter dining or easier booking.

Yes, guests mention yum cha (dim sum) as a popular experience and note membership discounts through Bankstown Sports Club for members. The menu also features banquet options and specialty items like Peking duck and signature fried rice suitable for special occasions. Ask when booking about membership pricing or banquet packages.
