Young Joni is James Beard award-winning chef Ann Kim's restaurant located in the Arts District of Northeast Minneapolis. The menu is inspired by wood fire cooking and features an array of globally influenced dishes and signature pizzas. Dining Room reservations are offered for dinner and weekend brunch; walk-ins are available at our bar and community table.

Young Joni is the recipient of 2019's James Beard Award for "Best Chef Midwest"; it has been featured in the New York Times and Vogue, and on Netflix's "Chef's Table: Pizza."

Tucked discreetly behind Young Joni is the back bar, serving full and no-proof craft cocktails and pizzas in a warm, analog setting. Esquire named it one of 2019's Best Bars in America and Eater called it an "Essential Minneapolis Bar." Walk down the alley alongside Young Joni and look for the red light; when the light is on, the back bar is open. Back bar reservations are available, and walk-ins are always welcome.

    Overall we had a good experience as the food,service,dining room and general ambiance were quite good. The confit mushroom dish was outstanding. What lessened our experience was the music noise level. Speakers were everywhere,really unavoidable, and our table was below one of them. My 21 years old son had a hard time holding a conversation with me. We asked a server (not the one who served us) if the volume could be turned down and if they did in fact turn it down there was no noticeable difference.

    Overall, the food was excellent, the main issue was with the service. There were many employees that were simply standing around, but not helping. And the service was spotty. I have eaten at Young Joni in the past, and the service was not like this. I was rather disappointed with the change in service quality.

    We had a delicious lunch. We shared three pizzas and an entree called Juk served in a bowl. The jasmine rice in the bottom of the bowl was like a warm porridge. It was so filling on a cold day. The short rib meat on the Juk was very tender. The shared entree was polished off. We opted for a spirit-free drink called El Santo because we were heading to a cookie decorating event afterward. The drink was delicious. The server recommended the drink, and she was spot on. We look forward to returning again.

    Every dish we had was amazing and had such wonderful flavor. This is a great place to go with a group because then you are able to try more things because it is served family style. I highly recommend.

    This was our second visit to Young Joni and each time we were over-the-top amazed by the food and service. Be sure to try the cauliflower, ribs and Korean BBQ pizza. Delicious! The experience was made so wonderful by the impeccable service of our server, Benjamin. He is a true professional and knows the dishes inside and out. He's AAAA+++ in our book

    One of the most disappointing dining experiences. I was celebrating my birthday and we had chosen Young Joni. No branzino or carrot cake. Server didn’t advise of these menu issues until we were ordering. A restaurant of this caliber shouldn’t be running out of these items by 6 pm on a weekend evening. Server/staff made no effort at service recovery. “Excuses” were just that. Pizzas were fair at best. Better options in Minneapolis and St. Paul.
