About this restaurant

  • Lively
  • Good for groups
  • Great for creative cocktails
Just one block from Aspen Mountain's base, ZIGZAG defies the expected. We've created more than a restaurant⏤it's the home of chalet casual, where culinary ambition meets mountain mystique. Our philosophy blends French chic with mountain edge: take risks, push boundaries, honor technique. At the heart of our kitchen, the town's last wood-burning oven speaks to both heritage and innovation. Each evening unfolds as its own masterpiece, where precision meets playfulness and fine dining finds its edge. Join us at the intersection of bold flavors and alpine allure, as we rewrite the rules of modern mountain cuisine.

Our food was very good. The restaurant was not that busy and service could’ve been better. I had to ask twice for water.

We were promptly seated for our 7 o’clock reservation, but did not have any contact with our server for quite some time. He was clearly flustered in the weeds and was not attentive to our table when I asked him if they did any specialty nonalcoholic cocktails he told me he wasn’t the bartender and he’d have to check. The French onion soup was basically flavorless and so full of bread there was no broth. The crab claws were still a little frozen and quite small and the three accompanying sauces made no sense with them. When the entrées finally came, it was disappointing to see that the hanger steak for the steak frites was drowning in a very dark brown sauce, and the meat was not cooked properly. If you’re going to open a French restaurant in Aspen at least have hand cut fries not frozen coated products. The trout was OK. We did not eat the entrees and asked for the check and quickly left. Disappointing..

Nothing memorable. Going to need to step up its game to be relevant in Aspen.

Was a little disappointed - nothing special in terms of food, service or ambiance. Filled with kids and very empty on a Friday night.

Now that the exhaust system has been fixed it is a very nice atmosphere. Food is good but not great We ordered three vegetables with our main courses and they brought them out as appetizers Somehow the Colorado Bass on the menu was not available in Colorado and was replaced with an okay Bronzino. The waiter brought out desert menus for the table while we were all still eating our main courses. The restaurant has potential but as in many of the other mixed reviews it needs to step up its game.

Charming make over with very limited menu and high prices. Seems like all the other new places in town. What happened to originality and flare?

We were excited to see the newly decorated restaurant. They did an excellent job remodeling the space. The restaurant was dead when we arrived at 8PM, not a good sign. The waiter was obviously inexperienced and he had no knowledge of the menu. We ordered a bottle of wine and he came back twice to tell us that it was out of stock. Then the sommelier came over with a bottle of our requested wine and said they just got in a new shipment. We had to flag the waiter to order dinner. Our friends did not like the menu but decided it was too late to try to get in to another restaurant. They ordered scallops, which they said were pretty good and hamburgers without cheese and onions. The hamburgers arrived with cheese and onions! We flagged down the waiter, not sure where he was all night since there were only 2 tables of customers, and he walked away. Our friends scraped off their burgers and then the manager walked over and offered to redo them. They chose to just eat them. We ordered oysters, that was were pretty good, lemon chicken that was dry and tasteless, and the trout that was almost raw. We had to keep waving at the staff, that were talking to each other with their backs to the customers, to have the wine poured and or have anything cleared. Probably the worst food and service I have ever had in 40 years of dining in Aspen. I doubt that they will be in business next season. They basically brought our check over while we were having cappuccinos to signal that they wanted to close. We walked over to Wayan, next door and the restaurant was busy and lively. We will be there on Friday night.

Isn’t, our server was great. We loved the fried chicken sandwich and new decor. Very French Bistro. Limited menu.
