Red Gravy offers upscale casual modern Italian fare.
Chef/Owner Eric Brenner spent his first decade in the industry inside Italian kitchens. Talking up St. Louis' wide-ranging Italian eatery scene, which gets as specific as regional specialties, he says he's wanted to have a place like this since he was 18.
"We're going to start very simple and accessible," he says, "we'll play to the crowd and start a dialogue, then grow the menu with community input."
"Simple," includes dishes like his tomato bisque, with which only has five ingredients. "It's all about the perfect balance. And that gets back to the essence of good Italian food: quality ingredients, very few, in perfect balance." Other examples include his St. Louis-style, thin-crust pizza, best compared to a flat-bread.

    We were able to grab a table on New Years Eve. The staff was exceptionally friendly. I love the vibe, especially on New Years Eve, energeric but not distractingly so. The food is brilliant! Every bite was an explosion of flavor. Awesome job Red Gravy!

    We visited on New Year’s Eve. For some reason, our food took significantly longer than everyone else around us. The couple who was sat at the same time as us was gone before we even got our food. We think this might be due to the Veal but never received an explanation. It was a huge disappointment that by the time we did receive our food, our server shared the restaurant was out of bread. After waiting for 45 minutes with no explanation, our server did bring us soups for the wait. Overall, the food was delicious. It was a bummer to watch everyone around us eat with bread and then leave before we were even served.

    We were seated quickly the waitstaff welcomed us as soon as we sat down. The food was great, as always. I love the many gluten-free options you offer! The music was a little too "at the club" for our taste, even for NYE. Other than that, it was a great evening.

    We made a reservation at 5:45 which gave us plenty of time to eat and make it across the street to our concert. We sat down at 5:40 and had our drinks by 6:00. It then took 50 minutes to get our entrees. The manager was not helpful at all and basically told us it was our problem. And when the food came, mine was cold. We had to box most of the food up to take with us. I was incredibly disappointed. We have eaten here before and it was great. Our server was apologetic. What was most upsetting was how rude the management was. Really makes me reconsider going here again.

    A train wreck in an otherwise good reliable restaurant. Seated at 5:30 our food finally came at 7 giving us 10 minutes to eat before a show. Food was lukewarm too. Just a mess. Some Diners left. Apparently a new host who is the owners son and a trainee in the kitchen. Get your mojo back or we won’t be back!

    We were able to make a last minute Reservation for 9 . We were put in the back room called a blue room. It was nice and quiet compared to the front. Cute room with a bar. Our server was, I think, really busy. She had to come back a couple times to ask us what we ordered to drink. It took a little bit to get service. When we did, the drinks were good. My Marsala was amazing! The chicken piccata was good, but could have had more lemon flavor. I was a bit surprised when I asked for cheese, it came in a bottle like shaker cheese not freshly grated. The dishes of food were large . I felt a little bad for the server.I think she was also the bartender. Maybe they were a little short staffed. I definitely would recommend this place again to try. But I think they need to staff it a little better. I think we were also a little surprised that the napkins looked like bar rags. It was kind of a cool vibe. I think it was in the heart of downtown Colorado Springs. 4/5 overall
