République, located in Miracle Mile, is owned by Chefs Walter and Margarita Manzke. Centered in the heart of Los Angeles, the historic building in which it resides was originally erected in 1929 by Charlie Chaplin, and later transformed into the iconic La Brea Bakery and Campanile Restaurant. République builds on this storied past, offering a gastronomic environment imbued with history and grandeur. The space features a casual bakery, café, and bar in the front with a more formal dining area located in the rear, serving a French-inspired menu created daily by our chefs.

From the OpenTable editors: The award-winning pastries and French brasserie fare created by chefs Walter and Margarita Manzke are still the talk of the town at this Mid-City restaurant more than a decade after its opening. Plus, the showstopping interiors are an extra incentive: Charlie Chaplin and architect Roy Seldon Price built the space in 1928, and you can still see the original brick, tile, and ironwork along with dramatic archways and green-and-white tiled floors.

    Ever since it opened I have visited republique when I am in LA. It’s lovely, however, the prices are now a bit ridiculous. Additionally, I noticed the “complimentary” beignets were listed on my final bill. I had to remind the waitress that I had never ordered them. Anyway, I wish you all well but I don’t think I’ll rush back there next time I’m in LA.

    Great dining experience, enjoyed the four course menu and the wine selection pairings that accompanied each course. The staff was fantastic, from the wait staff to the Sommelier and made sure we had great meal.

    When possible we sit in the back room so we can hear each other and have real conversation. Not as buzzy back there but great for connecting. Great food, elevated food choices for “any kind” of eater. Just love it!

    I know our server was a libra I don’t recall his name but he was on it, he was a sharp cat who knew his stuff! I love that I spent my birthday here, everyone was amazing the bartender was a sharp cat too. Omg the cooks! Hats off to the men in the kitchen!

    I make a point to eat dinner at République every time I am in LA, and it never ever disappoints. Simply the best, most creative food around, combined with lovely service and a great atmosphere. The chicken and quail we tried this time were incredible. Can’t wait until our next visit—totally worth the splurge.

    We were there for a special holiday celebration and had reserved a table for 7 with the event planning team. Alanna was very helpful, but when we arrived we were seated at a front table right at the entrance at a weirdly bare long table with no candles or vases/greenery which all of the other tables had. After ordering appetizers and receiving them, we had to ask for our server to be summoned to order our main courses (45 mins in). We ordered and about 15 mins later our server came up to tell me that our dinner entrees would be another HOUR and asked if that was ok. We said no and asked what was the problem, and he said the wagyu beef takes an hour. Nowhere on the menu is this mentioned, so we just canceled the wagyu. Then we watched a whole pow wow of our server and the manager and two other people for 5 mins, at which point my husband went over and found out that the duck ALSO takes over an hour to prepare and so we changed that order to short ribs. This is at about 90 mins in. The whole thing was bizarre. To make up for it they offered us two more baguettes of bread. After dinner when we got the bill our server brought us two pieces of chocolate cake to go as a token of apology, which was very nice. Unfortunately, they charged us $30 for the two sides of butter which came with the bread brought to ‘tide us over’ which just left a bad taste in our mouth. We won’t be back.
