Bayou des Familles, a lazy waterway home to many alligators, turtles, egrets and other wildlife, takes center stage as our restaurant’s design provides its diners with a natural picture show. It’s in this unique setting where friends and family unite to experience southern Louisiana charm and culture in its finest form. It’s an experience not to be soon forgotten.

The 15-mile drive from downtown New Orleans will take you through the Jean Lafitte National Park. You’ll arrive at Restaurant des Familles and park under moss-filled century-old oak trees. The restaurant’s Acadian-style architecture provides a glimpse of bayou life that once was.

Our menu features authentic representations of Cajun and Creole favorites such as Crawfish Etouffée, Seafood & Okra Gumbo, Seafood Platters and Turtle Soup. Our signature dish, Alligator Stuffed Mushrooms with Alligator Sauce Piquant, will tempt even the most timid diner.

We look forward to your visit.

It was my first time at Restaurant des Familes, I moved from California and I’ve been on a restaurant tour. As far as Westbank restaurants it’s one of the best I have eaten at.

Brooke and her team never fail to deliver a top notch dining experience! Crabmeat au gratin, fried shrimp and fried catfish were all delicious! Pecan pie was superb and such a generous portion so I brought it home. Can’t wait to go back!

Whenever I’m in the area with friends/business we always make it a point to dine at des Familles. The waitresses are always friendly and provide great service at this quaint Cajun restaurant in the swamp and if you’re lucky enough, you may see an alligator swimming out back. In the last couple of years we’ve noticed that the exterior of the restaurant has declined. It’s a shame because before the wood begins to rot, it’s nothing a little paint can’t fix. We love the outdoor seating/fireplace and hanging lights it is a beautiful setting as you approach the front porch. The interior as well has beautiful large windows that wrap around the back of the restaurant but are neglected, dirty and green with mildew. Nothing a window cleaner couldn’t clean up. The food/service keeps us going back but the value isn’t what it should be. Last night we had the shrimp Diane which was a delicious medium size bowl of pasta/shrimp but for $24 I felt it should have come with a side salad. Also had the shrimp platter. It was good but the batter on the shrimp was too heavy. Light/crispy would have been better. The shrimp platter also around $21 comes with fries but I substituted for jambalaya should have also been served with a little side salad as well. Nice selection of desserts, they are all $12 and plenty enough to share. Our waitress told us that the plate was very hot and even though the top half of our pecan pie was good, the bottom half had been so over heated that it melted to the plate. So, we ate the top half with the ice cream. We always order the sausage gumbo, it’s always very delicious and their garlic French bread is as well. We hope this beautiful little gem cleans up a bit and brings a little more value to the menu because it is a wonderful restaurant down in the bayou.

Food was slow to come and very bland. The waitress showed up about every 20 mins. The bread pudding desert was abysmal. The only thing that was ok was the view.

I ordered the Crayfish Etouffee and it not very good. It resembled gumbo in that there was no thickness to the dish. It was more like soup. The onion rings were fantastic. They ended up being my main dish. The service however was fantastic.
