A traditional omakase where you sit at a bar that seats ~8 people and the chef and staff prepare a delicious sushi tasting. The staff was very friendly and professional, we thoroughly enjoyed our conversations with Tu - but conversation is not necessary if you do not desire. There was a gentleman who I do not recall speaking at all. Our tasting consisted of 18 courses (+1 dessert), which we enjoyed thoroughly - one of the courses involved a copious amount of black truffle as I recall. They use real wasabi as an accompaniment to some of their dishes. The chef enjoys the use of sea urchin in their dishes, it’s definitely the most sea urchin I’ve experienced at similar places. Other items that left an impression include - tuna wrapped into the shape of a rose, a hearty helping of tuna belly nigiri, and multiple courses topped with ossetra and golden ossetra caviar - they certainly do not skimp on their ingredients. We hope to return the next time we are in Honolulu! Mahalo

About the restaurant
At Nori Bar, we make a darn good sushi handroll and are proud to say so. Our handrolls meet at the intersection of the freshest seafood from Hawaii and Tokyo, fluffy Koshihikari rice, and hella crisp nori. This isn’t your grandpa’s traditional sushi restaurant, but that doesn’t mean he won’t like it, too.

We built this restaurant to offer a high-quality sushi experience to a wider audience. So come in, kick back, and roll with us.

About the restaurant
Opened in 2010, Robata JINYA reflects cooking techniques and traditions passed down from Tomo’s father combined with his personal deep appreciation for the City of Angels. Now expanding to Honolulu, Hawaii, Robata JINYA plays to traditional robatayaki service of slow charcoal-grilled skewered meats and vegetables as well as exotic sushi and sashimi plates. Tomo aims to provide a lively space where sharing of small plates, as well as conversation, is encouraged. Further supporting the mission of comradery, Tomo chose the name “JINYA” in reference to the historical estates of samurai that later served as community meeting points. Welcome to Robata JINYA.

So nice we came back twice. Some really fun unique dishes and sitting at the bar was a lot of fun to watch the chefs work. Chef is very attentive and creative and thoughtful. High quality ingredients. Some highlights are the Kombu cured Wagyu, bluefin sosaku, and both nights the crudo specials were great. We are very happy about this addition to the four seasons and hats off to Chef.
