Spindleshanks American Bistro and Wine Bar represents the best of both old and new Lake Tahoe. Opened in 2000 by partners Steve Marks and Harman Schuchmann, the restaurant has become a Tahoe Vista institution in a short amount of time. By offering regional American cuisine and a variety of wines in a casual atmosphere, the pair created a dining experience that caters to both large families and couples seeking a romantic evening.

As usual, we had a really nice evening at this restaurant. The owner Steve has been in the restaurant business for decades and has created a very pleasurable spot to dine in both the winter and out on the deck in the summer.

Spindleshanks continues to deliver with their commitment to uncommon but delicious dining options. Their outdoor deck offers a great place to dine in warmer weather, while their indoor dining room is welcoming in cooler months. My husband and I were in the Kings Beach area on a 3-day getaway and Spindleshanks was our first fine dining choice. We shared the Ahi Napoleon -- which exceeded expectations with sizable pieces of tender Ahi Tuna and flavor enhancing condiments. I had the Pan Griddled Trout for dinner, which arrived with a Spinach Saute and a soft, wonderfully flavored Potato Pancake. All were delicious. My husband had the Steamed Mussels and Iceberg Wedge Salad, which were terrific. Service was great. We'll be back!

We had dined here 2 years ago, and thought it was decent. This time, it felt like other overpriced restaurants in a touristy area. Some items were alright, but some not so great. In our case, oyster appetizer was so heavily sauced, we couldn’t find the oysters. We enjoyed our spinach salad. Our main course of duck was so tough, we had to chew & spit them out.. yuck. We mentioned it to our main wait staff at the end, and he barely acknowledged our comment. I thought that was odd. Front staff was nice.

The food and service were excellent. This restaurant was recommended by our lodging as a kid-friendly option. While they do have a kids menu, the space itself was quite tight, with hot platters of food and drinks coming around the corners often. If you have a toddler that needs to move around from time to time (accompanied by a parent), you might find a different option. We ended up packing up our entree to go. All very tasty, though!

This is a solid “old Tahoe” decor and menu. The portions were very generous and the waiter was friendly and efficient. This was a perfect place to relax and enjoy.

Everything was great, except for the bees swarming over the table, they did put a table fan on our table but bees did not care, I suggest don’t order any kind of meat dish if your sitting outside

Heavy delays in seating and then over 45 minutes once seated before our order was taken. Pleasant atmosphere and music!
