Since our early days as a tea room, we’ve been a respite for locals and visitors alike, offering a haven for conversation and memorable cuisine. The tradition continues as our culinary team has curated an inventive and elevated menu through New American cuisine while paying homage to the beloved dishes that have been served at the Tabard Inn for years.
Executive Chef Matthew Zafrir came to the Tabard in 2023, bringing with him experience from various fine dining restaurants around D.C. such as minibar by José Andrés, Cranes, Revelers Hour, as well as Woodberry Kitchen in Baltimore, MD. He also shares the Tabard's longstanding commitment to sourcing ingredients locally.
Join us for a meal on our covered patio or one of our intimate dining rooms. Or enjoy drinks and light fare in our historic fireplace lounge, where you can enjoy our creative cocktails! A DC institution since 1922, we look forward to offering our guests all the comforts of a home away from home.

This is such a cute place, great atmosphere, and wonderful staff.
Maybe it was an off night in the kitchen, and while the dishes were fine (although the frisee salad and duck confit were definitely oversalted), none of the food items had me wanting more.
I’d come back for the cocktails and the cozy lounge, but would look elsewhere to wow my tastebuds.

The food and service are always exemplary. As it began to fill up on the most recent visit, the noise level naturally rose, but it was still possible to converse, and the thoughtful service made it a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Beautiful Place. Polite staff. I came with such high expectations based on pier recommendations.
NOT MET. I could not eat my food as I saw mouse running around the dining area at eye level. the chicken sandwich was flat as a 50-cent piece. Now the Hamburger at the table next to me was thick and looked good. The donut was also good. The sweet potato soup was cool and awful, without flavor. I was expecting it to be at a minimum warm. The shrimp bisque was the same. NO flavor, taste was missing. I would not recommend either of three. The cost for product was not even close to being there. PLEASE DO SOMETHING WITH THE MOUSE PROBLEM!!!!! I would not recommend eating at this restaurant.

We were a group coming from various parts of the country and arriving with travel delays -- the hostess seated us as we came and the waiter let us wait until we all were present to ask for orders. No pressure. I'm from NYC and this would be unlikely there. I've dined at Tabard Inn several times before and always loved it but this was special. And the food was terrific!

This is my second time eating at Tabard Inn. Both times the food and service was extraordinary! The skillful flavor pairings from the Chef are accessible but also refined for those looking for a higher level culinary experience. For those that only like certain foods or are particular Tabard requires you to trust the process and the Chef so it may not be for you but if you are open it is so worth it.

I've been coming here for years. It's really gone downhill. Food was meh. Price was good, but for such a lovely space they could keep up with the times.
