Since our early days as a tea room, we’ve been a respite for locals and visitors alike, offering a haven for conversation and memorable cuisine. The tradition continues as our culinary team has curated an inventive and elevated menu through New American cuisine while paying homage to the beloved dishes that have been served at the Tabard Inn for years.

Executive Chef Matthew Zafrir came to the Tabard in 2023, bringing with him experience from various fine dining restaurants around D.C. such as minibar by José Andrés, Cranes, Revelers Hour, as well as Woodberry Kitchen in Baltimore, MD. He also shares the Tabard's longstanding commitment to sourcing ingredients locally.

Join us for a meal on our covered patio or one of our intimate dining rooms. Or enjoy drinks and light fare in our historic fireplace lounge, where you can enjoy our creative cocktails! A DC institution since 1922, we look forward to offering our guests all the comforts of a home away from home.

Always a great choice for brunch with the family. Feels like a small inn in Vermont in the center of the city.

James provided perfect service. The cocktails were delicious (the lemon gin one), the chicken and duck entrees delicious. Returned the onion tarte as it was served cold and had a metallic taste to thé, replaced with a salad. Fritters were delicious. Unusual chocolate eclair, it was a modern spin on the dessert: cold chocolate bar with a white sheet on top and a walnut crumble, unexpected. Always have loved the Tabard’s winter menu and ambience (European feel), if you are lucky to get a seat in the entry room near the fireplace, it is perfect for a cocktail. Leaving restaurant at 9:30, staff of three were unwilling to «  put another log on the fire » to encourage patrons to have a digestif. After spending over $350 for dinner, you would thing they wanted to keep ambiance going… apparently not! Ah well. Arrived for 5:30 reservation, left at 9:30 pm. Long dinner with best friend.

What a gem within inner DC! Just off Connecticut & Massachuetts Avenues NW at Dupont Circle. Shabby chiic decor with a roaring fireplace accented by jazz guitar & songstress. Small but pleasing menu. Plan to return!
