The Actress pub in East Dulwich lies just off Lordship Lane in a peaceful and popular residential area. Our helpful and friendly staff create a relaxed environment for our locals visitors and their dogs to enjoy, a perfect meeting place for friends. Outdoor heaters ensure our beer garden is comfortable all year round and can seat over 60 people!

    Lovely Sunday roast , I had the beef , the Yorkshire was huge ! My guest had the vegan Wellington which was very much enjoyed .

    Booked for our group assuming it would be busy in a pub on a Friday (had been a few years ago and remembered it as a great pub). But at 8:30 when we arrived, it was empty. No atmosphere and the same children’s party music (S Club 7) that had been playing when I’d popped in earlier that evening. They weren’t serving pizzas, had run out of pies and the burgers we ordered arrived lukewarm. Both options of free drink from the Dusk app were unavailable due to the spirits not being in stock. Bar and kitchen staff seemed in a rush to close. At 9pm. In a pub. On a Friday.

    Hi Rose, firstly thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Fridays generally from 4-7 are very family heavy, after school vibe and has always been this way during term time. Our pizza chef fell ill quickly and was sent home hence the no pizza and early pack up of the kitchen leaving one chef alone, very unfortunate but unavoidable this instance. the pub was open until 23.30 so perhaps a misunderstanding. The DUSK app we do not operate, when we run out of product we have to wait for them to remove it. Its a free drink, some are more popular than others and run out AND we dont always know what the drink is going to be, to order plenty. thats said we apologise sincerely for your poor experience, we'd love to turn this around for you i hope you join us again!     We originally booked a table outside, but the weather was terrible so when we arrived they confirmed they had proactively moved our booking inside. There was a lot of choice with food and the portions sizes were very generous when they arrived.

    In the back streets of East Dulwich, the food and service is always good for Sunday Lunch. Avoid the busy pubs in Lordship lane and come here.

    We came for Father's Day and were placed in the Euros area, which was an odd choice but not a problem as not too loud. All 3 roasts were pretty good - though over-priced at £18-£20 IMO. Desserts took ages to arrive, which was odd given they clearly weren't made from scratch. I had to return my profiteroles as they were hard - as in stale, or perhaps heated then left out, not frozen. The replacement was a kids'-size brownie so we asked for service to be removed at the end, which tbf they did. All in all, a rather uninspiring experience with pretty basic service. This place is probably good for pizza as that's their signature thing and it's a pretty chilled place to hang out with kids, but despite inflated prices and a location in the heartland of gastro-pubbery, it doesn't seem to aspire to be anything great.

    Apologies about your seating arrangement, we have limited space as it is and a last minute booking for fathers day we did our best to accommodate. The Kids size brownie was choice not our recommendation & would have removed the original dessert but hadn't when you came to pay so you asked we forfeit the service not the food not eaten. We make everything 100% in house so we are incredibly sorry the profiteroles were stiff and not up to par and taken that on board. Cheers, The Actress team

    Kids table was great. Food was OK – roasts pretty dry, didn't feel it was £18 well spent.

    The Actress never fails. Great drinks and amazing food (particularly the pizzas). We last came for my Dad’s birthday and he is gluten free and they were more than happy to make edits to his order to make it okay for him. The staff never fails to make our time there welcoming. Lucy, Chris and Jasmine in particular are amazing at their jobs and make the atmosphere brilliant. Forever one of my go to pubs. Thank you!
