Pub Gastronomique

The kitchen is the heart of our pub. Tom Blake and his team produce a River Cottage inspired menu which changes daily and uses all the best local ingredients. It is simple, unfussy, fresh food at its best. This starts with our own bread and cakes produced daily and also extends to our own cured hams, fresh fish delivered 6 days a week from Brixham and fresh meat from nearby farms. We want you to eat well, whether you're after a large meal or a quick snack. Tom may not say much but he's after your taste buds and doesn't like to disappoint! Sunday lunch is also a special occasion for us, a great time to relax and eat at a leisurely pace. We run an extra long service on Sundays with a special menu - come and try it out. We also think that there is nothing more frustrating than finding the kitchen closed when you want to eat. So we run an all day bar snack menu alongside the main restaurant and pretty much anytime we're open, you should be able to order.

We've dined here a few times albeit not recently, as far ambiance, its a very fine building in a lovely village setting eat inside or out, the inside is an excellent mix of old and new. Some tables are close together or tight up against the wall the service is attentive and the food ok. For me its gives the impression that you are about to experience something special however whilst good it just didn't leave you feeling the same way.

We went for a long overdue date night. The bar was very busy with people having after work drinks. because of this, we had to wait over 30 minutes for ours. Otherwise the food was very good and the service friendly.

We left the The Swan with memories of great food. My husband ordered the steak - fantastic - and I ordered one of the great sounding & tasting vegetarian choices. If you are a veggie you won't be disappointed. I chose the restaurant due to the Chef's River Cottage links so had high hopes of a vegetable adventure and it delivered! Broccoli, ricotta, herbs & a bit more broccoli (sauce). It was unique and flavoursome, thank you. I would have liked something with a little bit/crisp just for final added texture (shout to kitchen) and the chips…well they were the crispiest chips we have ever encountered - fab!! My two young boys were happy. Relaxed atmosphere, village looked a great place to live/visit and they sell their own bread. Tick tick tick. Recommend and would visit again. Thankyou.

Relaxed, shabby chic country pub with restaurant and outside space. We stayed for a couple of nights and had two dinners and breakfasts. They have someone good in the kitchen - the food was very nice - better quality and more interesting than the average pub, but not over fancy. Our only gripe was that the staff are very young locals, which is nice in many ways, but they can't answer questions about the menu. There needs to be a stronger management presence and the staff need to be better briefed.

Group of 7 plus baby. Nice surroundings and excellent food. Ordered a mixture of steaks, duck confit etc. Desserts lovely.

Excellent Roast Sunday Lunch. All locally sourced food and fantastic quality. I had the Beef; best beef I have had in years. My son had the flatiron steak, great. The bread is baked on premises and is excellent. Service was fast and the staff friendly. Is this enough words for a review yet? I'm not writing a novel you know. Kanye Ipsum to the rescue.. Will Ferrell has reached walking living breathing god status! New project with 2 Chainz and Wayne dropping this Friday Respect to everyone working hard to keep a roof over their kids # ok another super serious question ... is there a portable fan situation?

This was my 3rd visit to The Swan and yet again it has disappointed. It is obviously popular vut I can't help but think there is an element of 'emporers new clothes' about this place with no one prepared to admit that they are being ripped off. I ordered the Plaice that probably had 2 mouthfuls of edible meat on it with the rest just comprising of skeleton and skin. Was with company and was therefore mindful of making a complaint. Definitely won't be coming back.

We were a group of six, two of whom who were having birthdays either side of the weekend. A few of our group were disappointed as the menu had changed for the one that had been sent to me via email and I had forwarded it them. Two of us had the venison but it was rather dry, had too much pasta (I forget the name of the pasta) and there were no vegetables. The deserts were okay. The menu wasn't that brilliant for a Saturday night's dining, and I've had better in the past.
