The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.

    The Walnut Room is beautiful during the Christmas season. It’s a wonderful tradition for our family every year. Our server José was fantastic and the fairy princess was just so sweet and lovely. Food was yummy and drinks were good!

    The value has decreased over the years. There is no longer bread available prior to the meal. It’s so hard to get a reservation. I tried for 2 months to get in. I was incredibly sad not to be able to take my entire family with 7 of us. Prior to Covid, it was a very accommodating experience and fun for all. I would like to see it go back to pre Covid times. Also, mugs are now a purchased item. Customers are paying for items where they didn’t in the past. It’s still one of my favorite Christmas restaurants to visit! I hope they improve and realize they are loosing the magic they once had in the past.

    Our server Stephanie was a delight. The young ladies visiting the tables spreading good cheer and holiday spirit were lovely. It was a very nostalgic visit to a beloved tradition. We greatly enjoyed our unexpected and last minute reservation right by the tree which was exceptional this year. I even found Uncle Mistletoe!!
